do you wear tights or not
do you wear tights or not
I was wondering whether people prefer to wear tights under their skirts or show off their bare legs, personally I am not a huge fan of tights but sometimes in the cold winter months I may wear a black pair if I am wearing a knee length skirt or higher (but never with any of my school skirts).
Im interested to hear what your opinions are on wearing tights.

Re: do you wear tights or not
Yes, there are times when I wear tights under my skirt, and the main time for it is just about now, because I'm a keen cyclist, and I go out in cyclist's winter uniform of longsleeved jersey on top and long black tights underneath, and when I get off the bike to go to a cafe or a pub or whatever, I put on a denim skirt rather than, say, trackie pants or jeans, just in order to put something over the sports clothes. I think black tights on a guy tend to be regarded as a sign of cross-dressing, but that would be absurd and neither I or my cycling friends have ever thought of it in that way.

Re: do you wear tights or not
For myself, Craig, I'd have to put whether I'd wear tights down to context. That context includes things like the prevailing weather, what millieu I am going to be operating in, and how I happen to feel about things at the time.
For cold weather, heavy tights are a blessing; they provide warmth with surprisingly little mass involved, although they can, depending on the quality thereof, tend to "pick" on skirts if underskirts (aka "slips") are not worn. For entirely casual settings (see my commentary on sailing) bare legs can't be beat, nor can bare legs be beat when the temperature is hot. For the rest, I base my decisions on what environment I'm going to be wearing a skirt in; if it's a business setting (e.g. at work, and I do wear skirts to work) I tend to avoid the bare-leg look, although frequently through the use of knee-highs, and if the rig I'm wearing is likely to show the band at the top of the knee-highs I go for full-length ones.
To Runfan's comment, I can't see how anybody would confuse cycling-tights with cross-dressing; those are specialists' garments which speak for themselves. I can see some of that confusion with sheer tights, but if one doesn't want to go bare-legged sheer is one way to go, although they can be surprisingly warm if the weather is too.

The majority of the time I just don't like the look of my bare legs look under the nicer skirts I have and prefer to wear tights.
Heavy tights in Winter to keep my legs warm, because my legs always seem cold in winter I even wear tights with pants most of the winter.
I only go bare legs in the heat of summer when wearing short or denim skirts, like when hiking or out on the boat.

I don't think I have ever worn a skirt out and about bare legged, and rarely go bare when at home.
I just prefer the feel of my legs with hose or tights, and the look is nice too.
If it is hot, then one needs only a slight breeze to keep cool.

For me, with a kilt it's bare legs and 'kilt hose' or shorter socks. With a shorter skirt it's usually opaque tights, as our ambient temps. here for most of the year favour the wearing of tights. I don't wear long skirts.
OK, on rare hot days in Summer and early Autumn bare legs are the thing....They're usually pretty tanned by then, and look OK.

Re: do you wear tights or not
I like the look of tights with a skirt, but absolutely detest the feel of wearing them; so unless it is really cold and I expect to be out and inactive for a significant period of time (for instance standing around a football pitch while kids kick the living daylights out of a bag of wind) I do not wear tights. I'd generally move from skirts to insulated trousers rather than wearing tights. The only other time I choose to wear tights is for winter cycling. Usually my fun cycling is done in baggy cycling shorts.
Wearing tights or not is just another matter of personal choice; folks should simply make the choice that they are happy with. In the final analysis it is the endless variety of people that makes the world interesting.
Have fun,
Ian.

In complete contrast to Milfmog I love the feel of tights so smoooooth, but the legs have to be shaved or it looks terrible.
Re: do you wear tights or not
Tights can be practical in cold weather. This last cold snap I wore some tights underneath leggings before setting out though the forest for a walk with the kids.
When I had my kilt on for my daughter's birthday do at a restaurant, I just wore kilt socks with my kilt and it felt a lot colder and I wish I put some tights on but I didn't as I thought it wouldn't look right. Sometimes, I wish I was a little more practical and a little less self-conscious about what goes with what.

Re: do you wear tights or not
I cut the top part of tights off and dispose of it, then use the legs from just above the knee and covering the foot times three for my normal daily wear no matter which skirt I'm wearing. I have P.A.D. = Peripheral Artery Disease which needs me to keep my lower legs very warm. Times three means three pairs at the same time as long socks. They are much warmer than any kind of cotton socks I've ever tried.

Re: do you wear tights or not
Generally, no. I am not sure why you would wear a skirt at all if you needed to wear tights with it - just wear pants.
The ONLY time I ever wear tights are the knitted tights and worn under warm pants when hiking in freezing conditions.

Re: do you wear tights or not
No I never wear tights. In my opinion tights would defeat the freedom of wearing a kilt or skirt.
I always wear thick knee high socks in winter, thick ankle length socks and bare hairy legs are fine for summer.
Knee high socks meet the hemline of a longer skirt or kilt to provide total leg cover on a really cold day as in my avatar photo.

It may well be that the reason I don't get on with tights is that I do not shave my legs; I gave up shaving my face almost thirty years ago and I do not intend to start either on my face or anywhere else in the foreseeable future

To the one that said "why wear tights and a skirt, just wear pants"
Commmon. Really use your brain.
Hose and a skirt are MONUMENTALLY more comfortable than jeans that drag along your legs. Hose or tights are much thinner to wear than pants, to the point where it can feel you are indeed not wearing anything under the skirt.
There is no comparison between wearing pants to wear a skirt with tights or hose. At least to this freak

Re: do you wear tights or not
I don't. One of the primary reasons I wear skirts is because they are crotchless. Placing a pair of tights, in lieu of loose fitting briefs, under a skirt would defeat this purpose. In the winter, I wear long skirts around the house to keep my legs warm. Unfortunately, I have yet to find a long skirt that I would feel comfortable wearing out in public. So on the colder days, I revert to pants when I leave the house. Needless to say, I am looking forward to spring.
