Skirt Cafe is an on-line community dedicated to exploring, promoting and advocating skirts and kilts as a fashion choice for men, formerly known as men in skirts. We do this in the context of men's fashion freedom --- an expansion of choices beyond those commonly available for men to include kilts, skirts and other garments. We recognize a diversity of styles our members feel comfortable wearing, and do not exclude any potential choices. Continuing dialog on gender is encouraged in the context of fashion freedom for men. See here for more details.
Well, this morning I decided I was going to wear a skirt out and about today even on my long trip I have this after noon. Well anyway I choose to wear my old navy jean skirt, nude hose (since it is quite cold),long sleaved blue shirt, and no show socks over the hose. Well, anyhow I started my day out needing to get something's noterized so I went to my bank and as I was walking in the lady behind the info counter looked up and gave a really strange look, but didn't say anything. I told her what I needed to have done and she said she would call the person and had me go have a seat. Just about the time I sat down a women who was very atractive came around the corner and had me fallow her to her office to do the notirizing i needed. She didn't even look or bat an eye at how I was dressed. we sat down and took care of biz. On the way out I had a few guy's look at me and a few women. the guy's just did a quick glance and went on about there biz. they women looked a little harder. I went for there to my local big lot's since we needed tp and cat litter. Once again I walked in did what I had to do and nothing. Yes i was looked at but nothing was said. My next stop was the biggest one! I had to go to my local mall to get my hair cut. When I got there the mall wasn't quite open yet so I had to sit out in front of the shop and wait. So here I was in my local mall with people doing the early morning mall walk walking by me and people coming into work and nothing was ever said. I did have a few female's look at me and say hi and smile. So once the shop opened I walked into there signed and was the first coustomer for the lady that has cut my hair for years. The first word's out of her mouth where "Arn't you cold?" My reply was "No not really I am actually quite comfortable." We did some more talking and just when she was about done we started talking about me wearing a skirt. I explaned to her that I was of scottish decent and told her that I have worn kilt's off and on for years, but that I just felt they where to expensive to wear all the time. I then told her how I cam across midas colthing and I said " Well, I love how comfortable a kilt is to wear and it's kind of nice to let the boys hand out. So I figured I would give midas a try and see how I like wearing a skirt." she asked me how I like it. "I told her it just so nice to be able to wear somthing diferrent than the same old thing. Plus i like to be comfortable once and awhile, that I spend my whole life in pants that I love the comfort that wearing a skirt offer's!" she said "I am not much of a skirt wearer but that she could see wear they would be far more comfortable for a guy that a girl. That it must be nice to let it hangout once and ahwile." she then went on to say "I do feal sorry for guys becuase if you look at ther colthing choice's they are very limited on how they dress or what is offered for them in the store's, plus she said they men's clothing is just plain boring." After that she was done with y hair and had someone else waiting on her. I left the mall feeling good about my self and what she had said, becasue let me tell you I was nervouse as hell! I have known this lady for a while she know's my family and my wife and knows what I do for a living. She did tell me I look nice though. My next stop on the way home was an unexpected one it was to an auto parts store to get some dry gas for my car since it started acting like it has water in the gas line's. once again I walked in did what I had to do and nothing was said and i was treated no diff than if I was wearing pant's. So for all you guy's here that are lurking in the shadow's or just want to wear a skirt when ever just do it. I would almost venture to say no one will say a word and most people will proably be nice!
Excellent report, just go and wear it and you will gain confidence each time, and the more confident you look the more positive that people will react to you, thats what I found, and I now wear a kilt or a skirt almost every day.
really, really happy for you!
i am more encouraged to go out on my own.
the one time that i did, i wore a mini to my local thrift store, and to the office supply store. nothing really bad happened, but i wish i had the good experience that you did!
I have worn a skirt out and about quite a few time's and have never had any negitve reaction so too speak. For the most part people just look and really don't say much. I have come to find out that there are a lot of women in there 20-30's that fell men's clothing is just as one put it "Plain and boreing!"
Thanks for the account - am I surprised? No. I've had identical experiences wearing denim. For most people, it simply doesn't register that what you have on is a skirt. For those who do notice, the fact that it's a masculine look somehow normalizes it.
I get more looks when I wear my Chunky low thigh boots, the heel is 1 inch, then I do wearing a skirt. Today my GF and I were out all day, me in a floor length denim skirt. We only saw 1 lady do a double take!
There have been times with my jeans (think pants) and boots on, I have seen people just stand and burn a hole in them, with their stares.
My saddle shoes with the same heel size gets no noticed.

well, once again just about a month later i am going in to get my hair cut "darn military " I figure I will wear the same skirt again that I wore the last time only this time it is almost 60 deg to day I'll let everyone know how it goes.
Well, just a breif update on my last outing to the mall. I went in that morning to get my hair cut wearing my fav old navy jean skirt, nude hose, t-shirt, and sneakers. Basiclly how I would dress if I was going anywhere the only differance was I was wearing a skirt. Well, I get in to the mall and I sit down on the bench out side of the hair place to get my hair cut. Now once again I am there before they open because i have to be down to WP a little eairler than norm. Well, anyway as Im sitting there I look over and I see one of my daughter's friends mother's who happens to work in the mall standing at the cookie store getting some coffie. She looks over and see's me sitting there. She knew it waas me cause she just kept looking. So I just politly waved, about this time the mall opened. I went in and got my hair cut. I had a nice conversation with the lady from last time about men wearing skirt's. She actually told me and I quote "Well, you have the legs to pull it off!" After that I left and started my drive down to WP. The only sad part is I had to change into pants when I got down in the area. Bummer!
