Comment heard on the radio
I was listening to Radio 1 (UK pop/rock music station broadcast nationwide) this morning when the DJ, Jo Whiley, said "I've just had an e-mail from a listener asking why do so many men wear skirts at the Glastonbury festival"? Her Answer:- "because they can...and nobody gives a damn!"

I was in Plymouth this weekend and travelled back up the M5 on Sunday afternoon, stopping just north of Glastonbury at Sedgemoor Services for a coffee (and some outrageously expensive fuel £1.309 per litre / £5.95 per gallon for the higher octane unleaded). I was wearing a t shirt, utilikilt and "treckers" (a cross between trainers and sandals) my wife wore a long gipsy style skirt and lightweight cotton blouse. Several people asked how the festival was; it took me a few minutes to work out why! Funny how we get so used to wearing skirts that we forget it may be out of the ordinary for others.
This weekend was the first time the UK had been out with the scuba club, most of the guys loved it but a couple of older more conservative types muttered about "skirts" under their breath. I always refer to my kilts as skirts and draw no distinction between the two but the difference seems to really matter to some folks.
Have fun,
Ian.
PS Listening to Radio 1? You must be far younger then I am

Do not argue with idiots; they will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

A man is the same man in a pair of pants or a skirt. It is only the way people look at him that makes the difference.

Funny, I had just written a small piece on a Dutch skirt forum on the very fact that although kilts are one of the many skirts, "A Kilt" is not a skirt to some, and so on. I too regard kilts as skirts, although if worn very true to tradition, it is then part of a traditional costume.

Because they can carries a lot of truth. The first time I went out in a skirt I was carefull to do it in a place where there were a lot of weirdows. As I made my way back home I encountered more normal people but no resistance so from that day on I wear a skirt weather permitting. Now today at the mall I did get some serrious looks froma few kids that just never saw one before. But one supprise that I had not expected came from two over weight females as I came around the corner to one of my favorite skirt stores, They exploded, not mocking but just supprised they said OCHO TACO BLAHBLAH SEQUENTY. So it was obvious that they never saw a skirt before.
