fashion website - men's skirts

Post by PatJ »

I was doing a little web surfing and stumbled across a fashion website that I found rather interesting. the link: http://nymag.com/search/fashion-search. ... t_stop=100

It is a rather long address, but maybe you could cut and paste it into your browser and it will take you there. (I'm not sure exactly how the URL thing works on this new forum format.)

It shows a number of men's skirts on the fashion runway - some are outlandish, but others would be definate possibilities if they ever made it into mainstreem stores.

Nope for all the so called men's skirts, at least for me.

I find it funny how the "men's wear" is modeled by women.

Typical.

For once, we are in total agreement! The 'death knell' to any would-be "skirt for men" is to appear on a "Fashion Show"!!!!!!!!!!

Well three were mis-tagged and were women, the rest were all male models, too bad they were all so ugly. But then it was a "fashion show".

Quite often the models show a face as if they were just fired, or had just eaten bad food. The creations could be something, if taken to hand and modified a little. Most skirt creations "on the catwalk" are to me just bloody ugly. It is possibly trying to set the unsightly men's fashion theme forth in skirts, which for me doesn't work. And although I wear somewhat femme, I still apreciate a manly look, and think the creations are just no good. What they do do, is stimulate reactions, and hopefully stimulate others to "do it better". It would have been nice to see some normal outfits between them, even with an Utilikilt, and normal T shirt. But that is not innovative is it?

Those styles ranged from the riduculous to the atrocious to the hideous to the absurd. It certainly didn't help put a normal face on men who choose skirts. Bad news, IMHO.

It also doesn't help that they showed guys wearing trousers underneath said skirts in most of the shots...

I can't agree more about the trousers, although the option to wear so should always be open. Wearing skirts over trousers is pretty useless. Wearing a tunic / short dress over trousers is a totally different thing.

By the way - I noticed that the link took people to the last page - did anyone check out the other pages like:
http://nymag.com/search/fashion-search. ... lt_stop=40

This page. No pants under mini's, but more of a kilt style.

Some good stuff there alright, especially from Comme des Garçons and Agnès B. They look sensible and practical, which is a good change from the clown outfits that we often see on the catwalks.

The ( ) makes me thinkyou don't feel your efforts have been appreciated in drawing our
attention to the links? On the contrary! It highlights and illustrates one of the many 'stumbling blocks' blokes face in trying to get unbifurcated clothing for men 'accepted' by society as a whole. It's really quite difficult to underestimate the damage that fashion shows like these do in that respect. 99% of blokes will immediately 'shy away' from anything thus displayed - fosters their belief that 'anyone who wears owt like that must be a ravin' woofter!" Women look, say, "Mmnn, nice boy!" and then, under their breath, "Thank G*d, my husband/boyfriend would never wear that - if he wants to remain my husband/boyfriend, that is!" So, sadly, even anything half decent is going to get 'rejected' out of hand. No, PatJ, you've definitely done us a favour, by reminding us....! 8)

I also appreciate the link, for mostly the same reasons Merlin gave. There were two or three reasonable outfits there, but most of that fashion was just awful, especially the little tutus worn over trousers. And one of those guys looked like he had a bag tied over his head!! What is that, the Guantanamo Prison look? Or a beekeeper in black? What were they thinking?

BTW :?: what's with all the pointy toed shoes? For climbing chain-link fences?
