Some time back, Ms Overweg had an incident while serving as principal of Carman-Ainsworth High School in Flint Michigan.
It centered around two lads wearing skirts to school. The resulting tirade portrayed to the press resulted in tens of thousands of eMail messages inviting her to lighten up and see where the lads were entitled to their rights in the matter. I wrote to her
regarding assignment of gender to clothing. Members of this board also wrote many eMails to her along the same vein.

I bring up this old news to advise that Deborah is retiring from her post as assistant superintendent of Carman-Ainsworth Schools. The interesting part to this story is that her husband was principal of Hamady High School in a nearby district and had the same event to deal with there. Both seemed to react to males wearing skirts in the same manner.

Just thought it was noteworthy.

Oh heck. My parents were called in to discuss my odd apparel. In high school, I made almost all of my clothes. The call to my parents came over a suit, a line skirt and conseratively tailored jacket, executed in a quited material and a dress in a paisley challis, knee length, long sleeved and jewel necked, with a semi circle skirt and circle wrist ruffles.

To give my parents proper credit, they rebuffed the principal and said that I was making my clothes and they should be more open minded and appreciative of my artistic efforts.

This is the same high school that has given us Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito (graduated the year after me)

Father Jim,
I don't recall the issue but would like to read some about it if you have a link to the story.
