Paisley full sweep skirt

Post by JRMILLER »

Guys,
This probably has something to do with my hippy days back at good old Kent State, but I just love this skirt! Not sure where to wear such a thing (perhaps Contra dancing), but I just love the colors! (Make sure you zoom in and look closely at the pattern, it is outstanding!)

The link givers me a "page not found" from their server, but a search for "paisley full sweep skirt" does.

Looks nice!

Let me know how it fits, I might want to order one.

In particular, I'd like to know how roomy it is in the hips (anything under about 70" is too tight.) And how "twirly" it is. I'm envious of the women who find skirts that twirl up to their waists, mine never go anywhere near that high.

I had to remove this signature as it was being used on Twitter. This is my OPINION, you NEEDN'T AGREE.

Isn't it just a wonderful inspirational skirt? :D :D :D
That is what so many men don't know they are missing, it is the inspiration, emotion that so much clothing, which is much for women only has. But some men are slowly discovering the great enjoyment of wearing such garments too. Wonderful skirts like the paisley skirt, should be just fabulous to wear, the length, the wonderful playful width, and lively colourful pattern. Flowing as you walk, hovering as it were, that is hard to beat with a sturdy utilikilt.....
 :?

But everybody his own thing.
A man is the same man in a pair of pants or a skirt. It is only the way people look at him that makes the difference.

Oh, I don't know. I'd wear that in a heartbeat. Given the busyness of the print it might be difficult to coordinate it with what I currently have, but it's a very nice design.

I ran into that sensation just this evening when I was out just "doing the rounds" about my yard wearing one of my tiered skirts (that I also wore out to dinner); the notion stuck in my mind about how poor the average bloke's mind is that he hasn't the strength, courage, and nerve to wear such a garment because they just feel so incredibly sensual when in motion in a breeze!

They are expensive right now ($70.00 US). However, they will probably on sale by mid or late summer. Keep watch!

I once had a paisley skirt but gave it away last time we moved. I would suggest that the skirt in the image isn't much like the paisley of your hippie days. If you want to recreate that era's paisley, look for a slightly smaller pattern in less vibrant color, and maybe a cotton or cotton blend fabric rather than all poly. Otherwise I say go for it! With a solid T shirt the look would be good.

Toni's opinion

Post by JRMILLER »

Hi,
My wife Toni confided in my that she thinks this one looks too feminine because it's pink and flowing. Other than the fact this is "a skirt", does it strike anyone else that way?

In our current culture (USA, late 20th to early 21st century), "pink" and "flowing" are considered to be "feminine." Of course, when I was a teen-ager, guys wore shirts (often loose, flowing ones) in similar patterns, and if they were ever accused of being "feminine," it was mostly because of their imputed (anti-war, countercultural) political views.

This has nothing to do with the question of whether you would look too feminine (or at all feminine) wearing it. For that, we would need a picture of you wearing it.

(Some guys look feminine in jeans and a T-shirt. Others look obviously male no matter what they are wearing -- cf. Orthodox Crossdressers' "I look like a man in a dress" problem.)

I think that her perception may be swayed by the presentation. Note that the model is wearing a form of tank top that is well beyond what most men would find acceptable, and the same goes for the shoes. It's more a question of how you would present that piece of clothing in your own context.

"Pink and flowing" are not inherently "feminine" aspects, as AMM points out, and the skirt is more than just "pink". I'd likely wear that skirt with either a red or white dress shirt (I don't "do" T-shirts) or something that would coordinate well, and with something that "busy" and multi-coloured, it'd probably be quite easy to find a good look.

Some skirts do look incongruous on men, but that, too, may be more our social "conditioning" than anything else -- it's just so unexpected to see a guy in anything other than trousers that it tends to look odd. We can only hope that changes with time (the perceptions and "conditioning"), but the change will be slow so don't make any risky bets on it happening next week.

You have a good eye. I look there too, but typically blanch at the price-tags. Nice stuff, though; if I could get away with skirts at work I might be tempted to buy some really good ones for myself but that's not likely to happen any time soon.
