Skirt Cafe is an on-line community dedicated to exploring, promoting and advocating skirts and kilts as a fashion choice for men, formerly known as men in skirts. We do this in the context of men's fashion freedom --- an expansion of choices beyond those commonly available for men to include kilts, skirts and other garments. We recognize a diversity of styles our members feel comfortable wearing, and do not exclude any potential choices. Continuing dialog on gender is encouraged in the context of fashion freedom for men. See here for more details.
Wiki answers has a question "Why cant men wear skirts?" which I and others have contributed to. However, some joker deleted the good stuff and substituted the answer:
No only Matt can wear skirts
I guess this was posted by one of his mates. So, I added to the answer:
Matt is a very lucky guy. He has the benefit of choice (trousers or skirts) which most males deny themselves, preferring instead to stay with their comfort blanket trousers. He also knows the comfort and freedom that a skirt offers, and is secure in his sexuality. In short, Matt is light years ahead of his mates who are wearing the same type of clothes worn by their great-great grandfathers.
Hopefully Matt, whoever he is, will have the laugh over his so-called mates.
The problem with Wikis is that anybody can "contribute". That's also its biggest advantage, so one must weigh the value of information received from a Wiki very carefully.

Some here will recall an attempt to revive the "mens' skirts" page on Wikipedia as a distinct entity from "(womens') skirts" and general menswear. It failled abjectly because of a single "well-established" self-appointed "editor" on Wikipedia who disapproved any and all changes to the topic -- to the point of vandalism. Needless to say, this reduced my faith, and trust, in Wikipedia to near nil. I wouldn't use them now as a source of a credible citation if anything more important than a (insert taste-free light brand-name here) beer was involved. For a real beer, or, better yet, ale, I'd do proper research, mind you.
[/rant]
But, in this case, I do hope that Matt gets a good chuckle out of the page, and I hope his vandal-pals feel a proper sense of scorn. (Although I doubt it.)
Edited 2008-04-12 09:15 EDT to inject "rant" tags; it's better suited this way, especially given the clarification offered by Bob, below.

I would point out here that Wikipedia and answers.com are two separate and distinct organizations. They share a technology, but that's it. They have different and distinct organizational goals and editorial boards. Experience with Wikipedia editors does not transfer to answers.com
Also, I think you're being too harsh on Wikipedia. They're only human. Moreover, the article actually did go against some of their published standards, particularly those requiring independence and balanced reporting. When it works well, I have found the Wikipedia process to be able to produce high quality articles. When it doesn't --- well, there are plenty of problems as well.
Wiki answers is tough to use. The Wiki answer link makes little sense as it presently reads. After reading it, I then registered as a Wiki user so I could discover who made what edits to the displayed answer. It seems that the Matt comment (which certainly got my attention!) was added by someone who deleted much of the discussion about the normality of skirt and kilt wearing by men. It takes a bit of work to read the background on the posts.
Firstly the forum seems to be a waste of space if anyone can delete or modify the discussion thread. Good work anyway Charlie for going in to bat.
Secondly, the answers that were coming up do seem to reflect the general perception of MIS. e.e its about cross dressing etc. The women in pants-jeans argument is completely lost on these guys with their fixed mindset. For most guys its all about looking exactly like your mates.
If a few footballers and pop stars started wearing skirts then overnight these sheep would be skirted too.

While I tend to agree that it is not very useful if there is no (apparent) control over what can be posted or deleted I was pleasantly surprised to find a link to a skirts for men shop that I had not seen before; Larp fashion is a shop specialising in clothing for live action role playing games and probably does not expect its' clothes to be worn ithe "real world" but I rather liked this skirt (no shortage of pockets in this design!) though I suspect I'd wear it with the zips pulled down a little further . Unfortunately I don't think it will go all the way around me
Good work anyway Charlie for going in to bat.
That view I second wholeheartedly.
Good to hear from you again Jock.
Have fun,
Ian.

I can't help wondering whether the Jermaine E who is referred to in the Wiki Answers is the very same Jermaine E / Kilty who recently (re?) announced his departure from this forum?
Perhaps someone with a log in at Wiki Answers could tell us?
Have fun,
Ian.

Thought the name sounded familiar. If I remember rightly, there was also someone on IMFF with a similar sounding name, also out to cause mischief.
That certainly sounds like him.For someone who keeps saying he wants to be with NORMAL people and not with skirt wearers - he certainly spends a lot of time on skirting sites.
It seems this Wiki Answers is a bad place to discuss anything. The minute someone that disagrees with your answer they delete everything.
Gives the closed minded masses a good place to censor the web; What a shame.
Yahoo answers seems better in some ways, but there is so much traffic on the site, that I find it difficult to find anything if it is more than 3 minutes old and the search system doesn't function as well as I would expect.
Well done to all for your efforts on various other sites. It's great to see someone from here post on any other site.

Aye, yon wee scunner JermaineE has deleted all the content and left his own rant, yet again. So save your efforts Charlie - ye cannae fix stupid.
BTW the name Jermaine is almost exclusively used for males of African-American origin. This may have bearing on this laddie`s attitude ( or may be a total red herring)

Jock, you are correct about Jermaine's ethnicity, see his post here for confirmation (straight from the horses mouth).
A little further down the thread you'll see that Kilty referred to "one poster (on IMFF) who was hounded out by..." going out of his way to imply that he was not Jermaine from IMFF. In fact he was and had already been pegged as such by at least one of our longer standing members here who suggested in a PM that I should not waste too much time on him.
Have fun,
Ian.
