I agree ladies look much nicer in skirts than in trousers. One good thing to come of it though is that since women nearly all wear trousers nowadays, skirts have lost much of their association with the idea that they are specifically a women's garment, giving us guys the freedom to wear skirts. Yes my wife now wears trousers almost every day and it does nothing for me, but yes she will wear a skirt maybe just once in a while. But I now wear a kilt or skirt nearly every day, and only wear trousers occasionally, just for some more variety.

I liked the article. Not only was it entertaining to read, I thought she made some good points. It's true, skirts are more work to coordinate and maintain. Many on this forum have made that point. Some people want to go to that work and look a particular way, some do not.
Today I wore a black calf-length skirt to church. I often wear a skirt to church. I was going to attend a church meeting immediately after church. So far, a ho-hum day. Until I came out of the building and found my dog had pooped all over my car (the inside), and I had one whalluping cleanup job ahead of me. I changed into sweat pants and boots before beginning the chore. It was just so much more practical than skirts and tights and dress shoes. But I didn't change soon enough to prevent my dog from getting poop bits on my feet.

Thanks for that sobering article! What a boring life that poor woman must have. You can see 'down-at-heels' like that on every corner, these days. Blokes and lasses. Perhaps that mimics today's society? Just spells, "Cannot be bothered!", in so many ways. Up to them, of course, I'm not even going to attempt to tell them to do otherwise - their lives....

What I find most depressing is that the so-called news media are running around trying to tell us we should actually care what this lady chooses to wear. Or whether celebrity A is "hotter" than celebrity B. Or who's sleeping with whom on this or that "soap opera" on TV. Or for that matter, whether a bunch of people who don't have a life approve or disapprove of us (men) wearing skirts.
Meanwhile, the story about how the country (my country, your country, anybody's country) is going to hell in a handbasket is lucky to rate a column inch on page 99.
There are plenty of more important things for me to spend my precious opinions on (even informed opinions, though these are of course always in short supply, in contrast to the more usual uninformed opinions.) I'm perfectly happy to have no opinion whatsoever about what this lady wears or doesn't wear, and I hope that this lady and her friends will extend me the same courtesy. If she'll let me wear my skirts (and maybe dresses someday), I'll let her wear her trousers.
Back to more important matters, like getting started on sewing some skirts I've alread bought fabric for.

P.S.: To shift the topic back to men-in-skirts: I recently finished another skirt -- a slightly sheer black skirt with a light blue lining. Should I post a picture?

Taking sides...
I have to say that I stand with "the grouch" on this one. I don't particularly care what any given person wears, and don't necessarily like being told to either! I have my own sense of taste, thank-you-very-much.

What I find interesting about this article is that the editor apparently thinks readers want to read that one correspondent does not care about fashion or think it's worth making an effort. Strange really.
I was very tempted to comment that the line

Milfmog,
Yes I have to agree that I was slightly miffed that no comments could be posted on this article. A large number of articles in the Telegraph do allow responses, as you're probably aware. This one could have been really interesting!
Sadly, most of the women I know seem to live in trousers 99% (or more) of the time. I currently have a female relative living with me and I think I've seen her in a skirt once in 6 weeks. Mind you, she hasn't seen me in a skirt at all as she doesn't know what I like to wear. As I normally lounge around all day in a skirt it's been a frustrating few weeks!

Choices
Personally, I think trousers are a far better choice for women and skirts are a far better choice for men, given what each sex has between it's legs and prefers to enjoy life when comfortably clothed. Of course, this is my opinion and is open to discussion or interpretation. :)8)

Trousers are great garments. They are secure and don't ride up or blow up in the wind; they don't get trapped in car doors, they keep the whole of your legs warm, they have useful pockets etc. Trousers make me feel active and dynamic!
So far as I'm concerned, skirts are great garments - for leisure! They are light and airy and give a feeling of freedom and absence of restriction. Skirts make me feel chilled and philosophical.
Women have learned to enjoy both kinds of garment - although some women seem to have forgotten the pleasantness of skirts. Most men have no experience at all of skirts and that pleasure will always be illusive for them. So let's count ourselves very fortunate!

As we all know, trousers are easy wearing. They make attention to legs unneccessary. Thus being easy to wear, and easier to combine, as socks / pantys /tights / the state of your legs do not matter.
But then again, an cover-all /overall is the easiest garment. Pants are uncomplicated.
Many things can be taken into consideration, there being so many variables.

It seems that uninterested, easy dressing has the overhand. Everybody's own choice.
From my own experience, I had a crew cut, and a beard. Wore a T shirt with or without a jumper, a pair of jeans and safety shoes ( to work) and casual black shoes for after work. But now ( I don't have a job at the moment) I have long hair ( thinning
at the top ) and wear all soorts of skirts mostly with tights / pantys, and for now pumps. With varying tops / jumpers. All in all, with the shaving to do and my long hair, I have much more work in the morning than before, but wouldn't miss it for the world.
( would like to get rid of body hair permanently )
For me give me the choice of skirts, and occasionally pants when needed.
It may be debatable, but something like why men wear beards. Possibly most ( I had a beard for more than 20 years) men with beards have them just for convenience. Having to shave twice a day only adds to the personal chores. The more you do with your look, the more time you may have to spend to get it / keep it that way, and especially in the morning, out of bed get to work time is not the moment ( men) wish to need to spend time on the way they look, the easier the better. Ok some things take little time, but it all adds up. And can have an influence.
A combination of choice, attitude and time available ( for men who go further than a braveheart ( ie pantys etc, but not the "full monty" travesty)
Luckily the fashion ( for women ) is getting on a good start, with many skirts and dresses. So I do think that more women will be wearing skirts than we have seen the last few years. And as for us, women don't always want to fuss, and when THEY wear skirts, of course everything must be perfect, as opposed to the general men skirt wearer he just puts on a skirt instead of a pair of p*nts, which makes it much less a hassle to do.
Personnaly I just love to see women in dresses / skirts, they get a more "flowing" look. Pants generally make you look more "rigid".
One hing I wonder, is that if women wear pants practically all the time, do they still care about their looks, do they still WANT to be sexy, themselves FEEL good? As I think that wearing skirts does make you feel good, man or woman.
Having said all that, I am wondering if it still makes sense, but it is still a personal choice, influenced by fashion trends.

A man is the same man in a pair of pants or a skirt. It is only the way people look at him that makes the difference.
Peter V. you are right, as far as I am concerned, about reasons for having a beard. I got a haircut at the hairdresser two days ago and got her to run a No.4 on the clippers over the beard. Big transformation!! When it comes to skirts and the psychology of their use. it does bring out a more gentle, philosophical side to one's nature.
