If going commando under a mini-kilt or mini-skirt one is just asking for trouble of one kind or another.
Simply wear some kind of minimum underpants and trouble is averted.
Beware of those types of thrill seekers trying to lift a hem or cause one to bend over picking up
dropped coins or something else to check the truth out - "What is worn underneath"?
Squat before bending to avoid the I see London - I see France - - - or something out of the blue !
The laws should be applied equally about risky apparel but the wink of an eye is always given to
the fair sex.
Regarding something hanging down or even someone with a hang-up care must be taken when
taking those medical drugs (Viagra etc.) to do so in a controlled bedroom environment rather than
on the street. The disclaimer that if the activity continues after 4 hours a doctor should be consulted.
Care must be taken if skirted in public - altered unexpected appearances may be embarrassing !

Wear what meets your comfort zone but be careful about encroaching on the comfort zone of others.

"Skirt-Kilt-On"
"YES SKIRTING MATTERS"!
"Kilt-On" -or- as the case may be "Skirt-On" !
WHY ?
Isn't wearing a kilt enough?
Well a skirt will do in a pinch!
Make mine short and don't you dare think of pinching there !

Hi R.M.
I'd agree wholeheartedly, be comfortable or don't wear it at all.
Is that not just common sense, or am I being obtuse?
Personally, I'd never go "commando", that's just me though.

My lowest length is about 19". You can still go commando. I like to feel the skirt flowing. As the weather gets cold (really cold, it is nice to have skirts below the knee.

For those of you not from the US, prescription meds can be advertised on television here under government guidelines, which require that the side-effects of the drug be given in the ad. It has now become an interesting phemenon, researched by universities and recently reported on NPR's 'Marketplace' radio program, that the drugs which list the most serious side-effects are the most requested prescriptions. It seems that comsumers (and I won't call them all hypochondriacs) equate serious side-effects with potency of the medication, and believe it will be more effective therefore on their particular maladies.

One of the most suddenly requested drugs was one which included in its ad the warning "If you develop a persistent erection, consult your physician."

Well, if it doesn't then why do they advertise it as The Weekender?

The drug wasn't an ED med; it was for some other disorder. The persistent erection was a side effect. Apparently an attractive one.

Well, it looks like our length preferences are all over the map; just as I suspect they would be if a large group of women were asked. I adjust my length to the weather; in summer I always wear a very short mini, but in winter you need something longer, and pantyhose underneath if its very cold. In spring and fall, well I have 2 choices; either a mini with pantyhose, or a longer skirt over bare legs. Both are pleasant alternatives to pants.

It is good economy to have a couple of elastic-waisted underskirts or petticoats that can be optionally worn under the longer skirts to reduce draughts. In effect they give you two skirts for each one you own. In really cold weather, both underskirts can be worn at once to give even more insulation, but the extra bulk takes a bit of getting used to.

Looking in shops and internet, I find that my choice is severely limited, regarding length.
I by far prefer knee-length skirts, perhaps from years of wearing and liking traditional kilts, but women's skirts seem to be sold either longer or shorter, never just knee-length. The few skirts I have that are the length I like, came from charity shops and are undoubtedly models from bygone years, no longer in fashion, so no longer produced.
Sad.
I find the sharp horizontal line, just half way down the leg, kilt-wise, very elegant, whereas I have not yet been impressed by the many pictures of longer skirts worn by men that have appeared on the web -- sorry, café members who have shown themselves here in long skirts; just my personal taste. Everyone has his prejudices, I suppose. Long skirts get in the way and limit one's freedom, short skirts allow a little bit too much freedom!

If they are only a little bit too long, could you take the hem up a few inches?

For me, 24" is about kilt/knee length and the shortest I can wear without risk of becoming indecent during some careless moment; 36" is about ankle length and the longest I can wear without having to lift it when going upstairs or getting tangled in it when walking briskly. Until now, all my skirts have been one or other of those lengths, short for Summer and long for Winter; I had not tried anything in between.

A few days ago, I decided that neither length was really suitable for Autumn, so I made myself one with a 30" drop - not without some misgivings.

To my surprise, it has turned out to be extremely comfortable and practical. It is nearly as warm as the long skirts because it hangs low enough to cover my legs at the top of my long socks, but it is less cumbersome than a long skirt and has no tendency to tangle. When sitting, there is plenty of material hanging over my knees, so I don't need to keep checking whether it is in danger of riding up and showing anything it shouldn't.

Pelmut, I like the way that skirt drapes even though it appears to be denim, I fabric I really don't like.

The material came from a small fabric shop in Bath http://husqvarnastudiobath.co.uk/, it was quite expensive but is the best denim I have come across so far. It feels as good as it looks.

The term "denim" seems to cover a wide range of materials; one length I bought elsewhere is so stiff that, even after being washed several times, the skirt will almost stand up by itself. It feels like something between military canvas and thin cardboard.
