Why has long hair been mainstreamed for men while skirts haven't?

Discussion of fashion elements and looks that are traditionally considered somewhat "femme" but are presented in a masculine context. This is NOT about transvestism or crossdressing.

A ton of employers, especially in America, prohibit cis-men wearing skirts at desk jobs, right? Don't see how that's "freedom of expression" for men.

Such as it is with men in skirts, I just think it doesn't appeal to most men. And there's nothing wrong with that.

someone's going to respond "well now you don't know if you like seafood unless you try it!"

True, but you're missing the point. It doesn't appeal to me.
I think a ton of men have at least worn a bathrobe or wrapped a towel around their waist and thought, "dang, this feels super comfy, kind of like a skirt or dress. Why aren't guys allowed to wear them?"

Saying most men have zero interest in even trying skirts is missing the point. It is a completely valid point to say that most men don't know they like skirts if they've never even tried it, simply because they're not allowed to try it without social stigma. A lot of guys now wear leggings under exercise shorts because it's now been mainstreamed, perhaps by a few basketball stars, and they find out how comfy leggings are. Before then they'd have no socially acceptable opportunity to wear leggings. Same goes with skirts.

The division isn't absolute. Some people, like myself, may prefer to wear trousers one day, and a skirt on another day. Which has made one option easy for me-choosing to conform at work.

Apparently, some people like leggings, which never appealed to me.
I do enjoy wearing men's athletic leggings, kind of makes you feel like Robin Hood, and feels like butter on your legs. Really feels like a second skin and gives you the illusory feeling of smooth, shaven legs. Men's leggings are also available in so many more colors than men's sweatpants are. They also take up far less space in luggage than even shorts. Leggings are the most comfortable pants their are (more comfortable than shorts). But skirts are even more comfortable than leggings.

Good point. If they have never tried wearing a skirt, they don't know what they are missing.

Why does it matter what other people do anyway?

Men have the right to wear skirts... If a man wants to bad enough, he'll find a way. Everyone here does, and many members live in the U.S.

If a man can't wear one at work, he can still wear them at home.

I mean, honestly, we're only talking about getting a man in a skirt, not getting him off the street, cleaned up off drugs, or saving his eternal soul.... why do we evangelize this so hard? If he doesn't want to... leave it alone.

When he sees us wearing skirts in public, that's proof positive that yes, a man can wear a skirt.
