Yeah, after I started getting into skirts I found myself going down a shirt size, and having to replace a bunch of baggy ones.Dust wrote: ↑Tue Jul 30, 2024 12:02 am If I'm getting a short sleeve men's shirt, I go a size down from what I used to get, and it's basically slim fit. Long sleeve, going down a size (or going women's) will often result in sleeves that are too short on me.
My wife encouraged me to start getting more fitted shirts in general, now all my old, baggy, "regular fit" men's shirts just take up closet space, never getting worn with pants or skirts. Having grown up I'm an era of baggy clothes, it seemed like a significant change, but it really does work better.
How do you approach tops?

Yes. Maybe 'trimmed' or 'fitted' are better words.
Unfortunately most clothing manufacturers don't do much (or any testing) with larger models, and just use the same proportions. And if it's a weird fit, you kind of have to go baggier.

Oh yeah, I forgot about kilt jackets. They definitely had the right idea with the higher waist! Gonna be on the lookout for these types of jackets.timemeddler wrote: ↑Thu Aug 01, 2024 12:27 am I've though about some of those women's jackets where the waist is cut higher as a substitute for one of those kilt jackets. The idea being when worn with a knee length skirt it would be a more casual "kilt Inspired". Or just a casual look with my actual kilt.

When I started It was T-Shirts, Polo Shirts and Sweaters.
Lately I've bought more High Neck Tank Tops, Racer Back Tank Tops, Camis and selected Womens Tops.
On Womens Tops I avoid ones cut to enhance what I dont have so I wind up with the high neck tops.

My tops are usually a baggy t-shirt and a waistcoat when wearing a kilt or skirt and when it’s colder weather and I’m wearing a dress I usually wear a long trench coat over the top with a waistcoat. I recently got into wearing t-shirt mini dresses and I find them very comfortable and for me they have replaced men's t-shirts though I still wear men’s t-shirts when wear a kilt.
My name is Arty. I’m a guy with a passion for wearing skirts, dresses and tights and a hobbiest musician and artist.

Jordan,
Good discussion. As always, I have benefitted from the the thoughtful responses of the others in this community. When I was a young man, I had a slender build like yours, and I could have done justice to tighter fitting tops. But I am half again the man I was back then, and form-fitting tops display lumps and bumps I'm not eager to share with others.
That said, I have a variety of skirts. Some look better with shirts hanging over them, others look better with shirts tucked in, and others can go either way. Weather is a factor, too. In warmer weather, I will typically wear tee shirts, tank tops or polo shirts, depending on the skirt and the occasion. In the winter, I will layer those shirts with sweaters or sweatshirts, both of which would obviously hang over the top of the skirt.
Thanks again for prompting this discussion.
