I have to share a story.

My daughter's family had a house fire a year ago. No one hurt (they were at work/school) but house destroyed. They are just now moving back into the rebuilt house. They decided to go with a lot of "smart" appliances in the new house so they've purchased a few trial things to get their feet wet in the apartment where they're living in the interim.

My daughter got up the other morning and settled into her usual comfy chair where she drinks her coffee and wakes up, turned on the light, and it was chartreuse. Her daughter had found the smart light bulb, read the brand, gone to the app store, searched for that brand, downloaded the app used to control the light bulb, and changed the color to chartreuse. AND locked out her mom to be able to change it back. She's six.

Follow-on story: Mom installs an app to limit screen time. She's very happy to see it disable the kid's tablet when it's time to go to bed. The next morning she gets out of her shower to discover that the parent control app has been deleted from her phone.

I am sincerely glad that I am not raising kids during these times. How the hell do you cope with Internet access, apps, and all of that? It must be a real challenge!

I am hopeful that machines will be more rational and reasonable than most people. Of course, the PC challenges me in that belief.
