Re: We could be getting somewhere!
"Mantyhose" is such a silly name
Why can't they just call them what they are - tights? Or is is all to do with the female connotations of tights. Perhaps one day we'll have "mockings" as a male form of stockings
As for the girl who commented "If I had a date with someone and he arrived wearing this, I would keep on walking and pretend I didn't know him." I think she'd be doing him a favour, saving him the trouble of finding out how narrow minded she is

Re: We could be getting somewhere!
Selfridge's should be extremely proud of their PR department as this has been all over the place like a rash over the last week or so. It cropped up in another thread hereabouts a few day ago with a link to the Daily Mail and the Guardian and Telegraph have had the same. The Mail had something similar just over a year ago, as did The Independent, just without the Selfridge's angle. Errol Flynn seems to crop up a lot though. But the chap in the BBC report (and another in the Daily Mail) could hardly be said to be wearing tights in any meaningful sense. They were missing out on the whole "tight" aspect for a start! "Baggy leggings" would be a better description.
Anyway, yesterday I was out and about around home in a denim mini skirt and black fairly opaque ribbed tights, walking boots and a sweatshirt. I met a few more people around than I'd intended but got no negative reactions. From subsequent feedback through another friend, one of the people I met apparently didn't notice at first, then felt too embarrassed to say anything but was otherwise very supportive. So that all seems good so far.

FM -- 'Tis good to read you again; I hope all is well.
It rather sounds like that was a "win". Well done. Perhaps next time they'll speak up!floatingmetal wrote:Anyway, yesterday I was out and about around home in a denim mini skirt and black fairly opaque ribbed tights, walking boots and a sweatshirt. I liked his outfit overall. Nice balance of shape, colors and textures. And it looked natural on him as a guy as well.

Re: We could be getting somewhere!
I have one question about that entire "look"...either he's not noticed the cloth "belt" and didn't use it, or it's some sort of trailing strings that make the outfit look somwhat "odd", but what, IF anyone knows, are those long black flat strips of cloth that hang to his ankles for???

That has to be the belt surely,
having a look around the internet the mantyhose has just been laughed at, it’s a joke and no man would be seen dead in that, but we know that is not the truth, for there must be thousands of men trying to change their life style, but sadly can’t due to family life, job position ect.

Well, I wouldn't be seen dead in them! Proper tights, yes certainly, increasingly and as often as possible but slightly baggy leggings? No thanks! But I know what you mean though.RichardA wrote:the mantyhose has just been laughed at, it’s a joke and no man would be seen dead in that, but we know that is not the truth

Well, I'm not so sure of that, since there's THREE (3) of those straps hanging down by his ankles...Richard A said: That has to be the belt surely,
