Attending a conference this week for the US Office of Naval Research. Of course, most of the attendees are men, including a few senior naval officers.

But the hotel is also hosting a couple of other corporate events, so there are a different mix of folks in the lobbies.

Yesterday I wore a knee-length green plaid skirt. A light wool-like fabric, lined. The plaid pattern is laid on the diagonal, and there are no pleats. (No slits either.) So while it is green and patterned, it's sure not a traditional kilt.

First note: My Pentagon clients loved it, and gave me zero flack. Of course, they have specifically hired me to be an outside-the-box thinker, so they see this sort of fashion iconoclasm as part of my role, but nevertheless kudos to them for being open minded.

Second note: In the lobbies and hallways I encountered various ladies of the other events, of the event management staff, and of the hotel staff. As is usual: The Chicks Dig It. I received many warm smiles, with eye contact, and a few nice comments of approval.

I stuck with my Rule of One Item: I wore the skirt, but no hose and my most masculine looking shoes. I think this helps people over the barrier. Today I am wearing shoes that are quite feminine in style, but I am doing so in trousers and suit coat: One Item out of place, not more.

Bottom line: Skirts and men's legs are acceptable and appreciated, when properly and respectfully introduced, even in rather unlikely places....like the Pentagon.

All the best,

Chris

no such thing as an item out of place. It's a man wearing it so it's men's clothes. 8)

As one who lives in a strongly military community, I have found them to be among the coolest people in the country! They naturally trend politically conservative, but less so socially. I'm not surprised at a neutral to positive reaction. They generally have their heads screwed on right and well-placed values - country and family above all, but beyond that, live and let live.

Chris, that is impressive your skirt wearing was treated respectfully. I would not have assumed that of Pentagon staff. Nice to be wrong! Come to think of it, US military agencies have official tartans while not many other United States employers do so it kind of makes sense. :D

Well, I have been shaving my legs now for about 4 or five years. When I first started I had to shave just about every day to keep them smooth. Now I am down to about every other day or every two days. i have had a few ladies tell me I have nice legs. That was before I started wearing skirts and hose. I'm not a big guy I'm 5'6" and about 150 Lbs. I don't have big pecks and things of that nature. What I do have is according to some ladies nice legs and a nice butt   Here is an attached picture of me in a skirt with suntan hose just showing my legs. PS This is one of my skirts that have the slit in the front :feedback: Let me know what everyone thinks?

If you go for tights then I feel like shaving is required, if not for aesthetics (hairs poking through the fabric even with black opaques) then for comfort. There is little more irritating than having tights tugging at your leg hair all day. It seems, at least to me, that tights stay up better when you've shaved; hair acts as a lubricant that will result in the tights slipping down your legs repeatedly over the course of the day necessitating numerous adjustments.

Ya for the most part I do wear legwear most of the time when I am wearing a skirt. I mainly do it for modesty reason's, I will how ever wear skirts sometimes with out them. I never wear a skirt in the colder weather with out them, beleve it or not they do actually keep your legs quite warm. You always hear women say they hate them becuase they are uncomfortable and what not. Well, I have found that if you get the right size that doesn't seem to be a problem!

I for one love to show off my legs. I worked hard for them why the heck hide them? I wear minis, tight and loose, and medium length also either tight or loose with slits, these show my legs quite well. I also have quite long and loose satiny skirt that is very sensuous (especially with hose), that is fun to flash leg to my room mate with (she loves my style choices)

As I have stated I always wear hose or tights over them when skirted. I also shave my legs, though only once a week with some electric trimming during the week.

If I don't shave my hose go south, as if the hairs are pulling the hose down. This can be a big problem if the hose are well used (but still in good general condition), and the waistband is kinda loose, and the skirt is loose fitting. This is exasperated due to the way I wear hose.

With shaved and oiled legs hose feel incredible, as do leggings. First time I pulled a pair of leggings on with shaved legs they just applied onto my legs, and stayed put the whole day.

It is quite ironic that I started shaving when physically forced to by my swim team. I have shaved since when I first felt how nice shaved legs feel, and how crummy stubble feels;).

In the cold weather I wear black tights. Some times with shorter skirts I will wear PH because my legs look better. They are scarred to some extent, and some sort of covering makes them look better. Some times I wear knee hi sox in cooler weather or tall boots. And, yes my legs are shaved.

Yes shaving hairy legs is the best if you want to wear skirt with or without tights it give you look sexy and cool -- I used Veet cream with bladeless that give my leg so smooth and wear tights look great as much smooth plus short skirt. I do wear as usual cos my legs look cool when I stand at the mirror - keep shaving and dont keep your hair on like ape with big banana...

well, ill say this i didn't start shaving my legs becuase of skirts and hose. I started shaving them more for hygein than anything. I have never gotten a negitave remark from anyone about it accept for my family. So i have come to the con conclusion that most people don't even notice and they really I think don't care what you do!

I love to show my legs. It's not because my legs are great, I have skinny legs. It is nice to have my legs exposed to the air and not have them covered up in uncomfortable long pants. I used to live in shorts during the summer, but last year I wore them very little. Last summer was spent in short skirts and dresses. I'm going to keep all my shorts but I will probably wear them very little this year. I have got a lot of compliments from women when I go out in public wearing skirts and dresses.
