Men Shouldn't Wear Mittens!

My early training was math and philosophy. One of my favorite methods of argument was using the technique called "reductio ad absurdum" which basically means argue by presenting absurdities. It sort of "stuck" with me and that's the thought behind the blog entry.

The notion that men should NOT wear skirts is absurd. People can't seem to view this subject without bias, so I chose a less energized subject (mittens) and presented the same argument with mittens and gloves. No one is really going to object to men wearing mittens, so after dragging someone through the mittens/gloves argument, you hit them with the "well, what about skirts and pants?" for men. It may be enough to get them to see past their bias.

Then, if still not successful, I guess you try to think of other ways to point of the absurdity of requiring men to wear pants....

When someone hits me with those, I usually react with a couple of ads of my own...ad infinitum, ad nauseum..ad pukeum?
