Denim Skirt - Praise from an Unexpected Source

I threw on a jeans skirt first thing this morning, intending to change into a kilt later to take the wife out to lunch, then for us both to visit the hairdressers. Wife suggested the jeans skirt would be fine for going into town rather than changing. After lunch I went into our local kilt shop where I had to collect a new pair of kilt hose in lovat blue which I had ordered. The proprietor, who at present only sells traditional kilts but is looking to move into modern styles immediately commented that the kilt I was wearing was absolutely superb. I looked down and yes I was wearing the humble denim skirt, so practical for a windy day when a kilt would fly up, and with its useful front zipper fly. He said I looked really good in it and he would like to see this style become more popular. I gave him a Midasclothing business card, they always put a few of these in the pockets so that wearers can spread the word.
I was particularly pleased to get a good comment from a kilt shop proprietor, as the one and only person who has so far reacted negatively to the denim skirt was a young Scots fellow wearing a kilt whom I encountered in an airport last summer who asked if it was a woman's skirt.

Think they would consider stocking other skirts such as Midas? That would be a real step forward and somewhere to shop on my way from the Clyde to Keswick when I go to visit relatives.

I guess it's a matter of taste. To my way of thinking, they're all pretty much alike -- straight or almost straight skirts, cut too close in the hips.

Oh, well. Back to the sewing machine....

I think denim skirts often look very nice, my only problem with them is the texture of the material, as I prefer wearing something softer and more comfortable. Because of this I doubt I'll ever get one.

Just my choice though, the world would be a boring place if everyone liked the same things

A lot of demin skirts are softer than jeans, since they seem to be made from a different grade of denim than what men's jeans are... Both of the denim skirts I own are quite comfortable to wear, compared to the jeans that I own.

Thanks, I will have a closer look into getting a denim skirt. I just assumed the material would be similar.

I think that you will find the same is true for womens denin/jeans. They are manufactured with a
lighter softer grade of the denin material unlike the mens old fashion gold rush canvas type production.
Of course there are fashion designer jeans made of material of different grades of spandex; polyester
and who knows what. Mens jeans/denin were made for men to work in and rough house. The womens
were made to look fashionably chic. So it stands to reason that the skirts would be made of material
suitable for fashion wear rather than country cowboy(girl) rodeo stuff. I have only one dark blue denin skirt
made by Nike which is a pull-on type with 2 very small inseam pockets 17 inch hem and the material is very
soft and semi-stretchy with not a great deal of fabric weight you would expect of denin.
Double stitch detailing; no rivets/studs and no belt loops. It was a rare find on ebay.
You might think of going to a fabric yard goods store and getting a bolt of material and making or having
someone make you a skirt custom to fit with your waist (elastic or with fly placket or side or rear entry zipper)
and hem length specs of your choosing. Something custom made for you is a great deal better than an off the
rack ill fitting item that may require adjustments to get the fit right.
Then again you might get lucky and hit it off with something that fits as is.
