How's the weather in your area?
I believe it's time for the yearly seasonal World weather report, so to start the ball rolling, it was 33 cel. or 91fah. yesterday with 85% humidity. There have been quite a few very damaging storm supercells over the last 3 weeks, usually gathering here and then taking their fury out on Brisbane. Yesterday however, Clifton, a wheatbelt town 35 kilometres from here was hit and a few houses unroofed. One farm out of town had two empty silos toppled and rolled one and a half kilometres. A rainband is coming with drier, cooler southwesterlies behind it- I can't wait!

The highest temperature I have seen ths week has been about 5 degrees celcius or centigrade. Mostly it has been below zero with a cold north wind blowing.
As I headed north through the cairngorms I was thinking how nice the landscape would have been in colour, I only saw it in white, with frozen lochs. Cool, man!

After a pleasently nippy autumn we have been swamped in a warm soggy air mass that has drenched us in over 4 inches of rain in the last two days. I suppose that's just to remind us that we live in SE NC. I long for the return of winter temperatures. 74F here today with intermittent heavy showers.

Things, right here, right now, are dicey. In the past 45 minutes we've had two power cuts, the world around us is icing up very quickly, and one of our next-door neighbour's trees just fell from the weight of the ice. Water is coming into the basement quickly enough to make our sump-pump work hard, and if the power quits for an extended period of time we'll be (1) without heat and (2) without a way to remove the incoming water. This is not pretty.

42 is expected to be the high tom'w with rain and some wind. By tom'w night, the temperatures will begin dropping below freezing. Supposed to be in the upper 20s early next week for highs with upper teens for lows. Will be getting LOTS of use out of the MacKenzie 9-yard military weight wool kilt. That, combined with a couple pairs of wool kilt socks, and maybe a second skirt underneath the kilt, should keep me quite toasty.

crfriend,
Power cuts; I'm surprised you don't have a generator, I bought one a few years ago because of the regular power cuts in my part of the world. It puts out 3 kw and I just isolate my mains at the fuse box and plug it in to a mains socket, the old fashioned fuse box then distributes it to most of my house. Thank (insert deity here) that I have old fashioned real fuses, none of those fancy breaker things which would trip.
Today; 5 degrees centipede and grey. Got to go and tape up the windscreen washer hose which froze up and split while the car was sitting at the airport last weekend, Bum!

Pouring for some days (or weeks I don't remember any more) Temperatures around 0 deg. C. Gray and wet. More then 5m of snow in some ski resorts nearby.
Still waiting for some "white coverage" for more Christmas feeling.

Hey folks! Here is a news article about the New England
area of the U.S. crfriend & Sapphire live in this part of the country.
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20081212/ap_ ... /ice_storm
I'm originally from the Mid-West (Indiana) but now glad that
I, and my family, live in North Central Texas. Rare ice storms,
but plenty of cold temps. Yet, it's around 50 degrees F at
this time. Twenty years ago, we had snow on this same date.
Go figure.................
Let's keep our Skirted Family Members, who are suffering due
the severe cold and ice storms, in our thoughts and prayers!

Re: How's the weather in your area?
It's coming on to Summer here in Auckland, and there has already been quite a lot of sunshine with about 70degrees F Temp inside. Very hot already out in the sun. The sun can get very fierce here, close to the dreaded ozone hole, and i guess suntanning is not all that ''P.C." any more, but i have been out there already, soaking it up a bit to prepare the skin for the beach. Whew, it can be hot! But i just hose myself down and lie out on a wet lava-lava as at the beach. I have grown enough trees and other vegetation here on my "1/8th acre kingdom" to create enough privacy to be in the nude to read on my stomach but i do put on a tiny pair of underpants be on my back, as the cricket season is here, and i listen to the local team chuck their wickets away as usual! I think the bod will be somewhat more respectable than last Summer, to not look too gross amongst the zillions of people out on the beach. No shortage of scantily clad bods there last year, and i don't expect anything less this year in spite of "The Skin-cancer Risk". Jack.

Thanks Jack, but don't get too excited just yet. We've just had a cool change and the isobars down south are real tight. It will be heading your way across the ditch right now.

Re: How's the weather in your area?
You are dead right there Sarongman, yesterday was hot and sunny as i fried in the sun, today it has clouded right over and will probably rain lots over the next few days. Typical changeable Auckland weather. Sometimes it will go through several lots of different stuff in one day. That thing over the Tasman sea doesn't look good at all! Jack.
