How to select size?
How to select size?
Right. I'm reading in different posts: "this is exactly my size..." But how you manage to figure out what is your size. If I'm looking different tables with measures of clothes, I can't really say "that's it". First there you can look in EU, UK and US tables. Second the measures can be very different if you look in different producer/seller tables. ...
Even if you select one most likely to fit, what do you do when found caught in between? My guess would be to find fit in waist and see later on what can be done with hip. It depend also on pattern and material.
Thanks for any help & regards to all!

Re: How to select size?
Firstly, if you are buying a "man's skirt such as a Macabi, there is no problem. Measure your natural waist and select the next waist size above.
However, I assume that you are talking about women's skirts. The problem here is that not only do you have UK, US and european sizes but that manufacturers do not conform to sizing. I can usually get into a UK14 but often they are too small and I go to a 16. Some 16s are massive. Anyway measure your waist and select your size from the charts. This will be a start. Ignore hip sizes as these will be made for a woman's anatomy and larger than you need . Some styles will look OK as the design will 'fit' to your hips, but others may require taking in at the hips.
A good way to start is to visit charity or thrift shops as you can easily pick up a several skirts to try for a few pounds. See what fits and suits - recycle the others.
One final tip for buying where you can get to the skirt but don't want to try it on there and then - take a length of string 1/2 your waist size with you. Hold it along the skirt waist on its hanger and you can easily and quickly check youy size without fuss.
I hope this helps

Re: How to select size?
FYI
A U.S. womens size 20 would equal a 40" waist. A 22 would
equal a 44" waist. I have approximately a 46" waist. I usually
get a 22-24 as some are a bit large, and some are a bit small.
A 22-24 will usually cover my 46 waist as it is a bit 'in-between'
a 22 and a 24. Now if you get a solid 22, that's a solid 44 waist.
A solid 24 is a solid 48 waist.
My experience, your's may vary.

Re: How to select size?
That's interesting, i'm a size 64 waist, 72 hips. I buy from 3 associated sites. I think they all belong to Lane Bryant. Similar skirts at all 3, more choices at LB, more of what I want at Woman Within, and more plus choices at Just My Size. My woman's size is 36 WP. I like the petite length of 30 inches, just below the knee. When I first started buying from them I didn't know Petites were shorter, I thought they were smaller in the waist and I started buying there with W's and got a lot of 36 W skirts which were really too long for my tastes. 36 inches long. My picture from the WSOP was one of those 36 in. long skirts. I like when I sit for the skirt to ride on the tops of my knees, not halfway to my feet.
I also sometimes buy at eBay. More plus stuff there lately than there used to be.
The 2 new skirts I just bought were from eBay, here they are.

A very good idea using the string, I'll certainly use it.Jock wrote:One final tip for buying where you can get to the skirt but don't want to try it on there and then - take a length of string 1/2 your waist size with you.
