Straight Kilts
I sewed a new name of skirt last night. It's the Fraser tartan and I'm calling it a "Straight Kilt" noooo pleats and nooooo apron. It's a skirt but could be more accepted than a skirt skirt if named a Straight Kilt for the "Kilts are OK but not skirts for men"types. Just looks like a tartan straight wool instead of denim skirt. Comes to just above the knee like any other kilt. Could be a good starter skirt for worried men that want to try a skirt but are afraid of anything not called a kilt. Sort of like Utilikilt, which isn't really a kilt either. I'm going to wear it around here and see how many people tell me "Nice kilt"!!..

I had to remove this signature as it was being used on Twitter. This is my OPINION, you NEEDN'T AGREE.

Good idea Skip!
While thinking of unconventional kilts, has anyone had any dealings with "Stealth Kilts"? Once I found them on't nt I thought it was a great idea and I am tempted, if they go large enough for me.

Skip, I have people calling this a kilt, so I'm sure they will call yours a kilt:

I was! So a simple fold in the material creates the look of shorts. People are so inventive.

B&B, that's a good site. Those "Stealth Kilts" aren't kilts either but calling them a kilt might get them more quickly accepted. The Urban Camo models have no fold and are just as straight as mine, it doesn't look like any of his have a traditional "apron" style wrap, and are all completed skirts with no openings except the bottom. Great!! He definitely looks very macho in them. I'm not sure that creeping thru a jungle in a short skirt would keep the local wildlife out of your crotch tho...hehehe

Re: Straight Kilts
I've got a camo stealth-kilt and it is basically a skirted garment with folds in the cetre to give the impression that it is bifurcated when standing still. This appearance is acentuated by the location of a strap between the front and back of the skirt which pulls the two together slightly, giving the impression of a pair of "legs".Big and Bashful wrote:Good idea Skip!

It's comfortable enought but definitely looks like a skirt rather than shorts, and the strap which is about the width of a thong effectively makes it a bifurcated garment, even if it is away from all your "valuables" and doesn't chafe.

Re: Straight Kilts
Well I wear straight denim skirts and anyone who has ever commented has always called them kilts. The only people who have ever questioned them are the serious kilt snobs, on one occasion two kilties I met in the airport the other was a guy who plays in a pipe band whom I met in the supermarket and he asked about the skirt but agreed it looked OK.
Which reminds me Skip, I discovered I had a Fraser great-great-great-great-grandfather who was a master shoemaker in Inverness, Scotland in the late 1700's so I have just bought myself a new kilt in Fraser Hunting Muted tartan, from my local kilt shop here in Hawick. I'm off now to add a couple of photos of it to my pics and looks thread.
