Got it! and I assume you were thinking about moving to California (in my mind a fate worse than death - washington is a much better choice).

I live in Washington State and from the few public experiences that I have had dealing with skirts, and seeing people in skirts/kilts, I would say it's fairly open here.

don't forget cambridge, in the UK. did a full day there in a lightweight kilt last week--got a good reaction, everything went great. attracted some attention but i think because of the heat, what people were thinking was more like "wow, sensible chap.."

honestly, in the heatwave in the UK at the moment, wearing anything but a lightweight kilt or skirt or sarong is just silly.

Where were you in IN? Indy might be a bit more friendly. The college towns are as well. I saw a guy wearing a skirt around West Lafayette back in '96.

You did?

I lived there.. and it felt very unsupportive. Except one mate from Chicago who told me when I get my feet casted again for boots to wear a skirt to it. :)

Pretty much all of WA state is skirt friendly. 4 years ago, I wore a knee-length denim skirt with bottle green kilt socks and hiking boots in the tri-cities. No one cared. It was a smart decision, too, since the temperature over there was in the upper 90s to lower 100s.

Whew, how can you wear those kilt socks and boots in those temps? Athletic shoes and socks are for me, and sandals. The moisture to the wool just gets all itchy. Haven't tried soccer socks yet...When's a good time to come visit Seattle? I'd like to get back to Vancouver, BC as well, if it's just a bit of a drive.

Pretty much any time during the year is... During the winter, more often than not, it's cloudy and drizzly, but, even then it's still a good time to visit. And it's still a great time for skirting. Just wear heavier skirts with heavier socks.

With respect to my leg/footwear, it really wasn't that bad. It would've been bad if I had subsituted a pair of shorts for the skirt. The heat was very dry, so it didn't feel overly hot. That said, air conditioned buildings were very much desired. Had been towing a car trailer behind the vehicle we were in ('79 GMC truck with a 454 that had a misfire), so the AC stayed off for the whole trip. Once we got back up into the Cascades, the temperature dropped about 25 degrees and became very comfortable, especially once we were back on the west side of the state.

Places round where I live inthe UK are usually skirt-friendly provided I stay out of areas where the average IQ falls below 110, or places populated by yokels, and leave the city centre before the bars close.

I never found South Bend to be a problem, and I lived there for years. I realize I'm awfully late to the thread, but I don't recall ever having a single bad experience while wearing skirts in Indiana.
Does wearing pants make you a lesbian?
You like mushrooms. I like pantyhose. What makes your taste OK, but mine not?

I had to remove this signature as it was being used on Twitter. This is my OPINION, you NEEDN'T AGREE.
