another Mountain Kilt for me
I was in a local outdoors outfitters store last weekend, looking for a hat, and found they had the Mountain Hardwear Mountain Kilt. Since I already have 2 and they might just be favorite garments, I bought another. I just love these things. They're perfect for many conditions, and they just will not embarrass you on windy days. If you get a chance to buy one, do. And they are < $50, so the price is right. I've already worn mine 3 times this week

Yes indeed, I'll have to get one! Even if it's only to show my support for a mainstream manufacturer who produces a skirt aimed squarely at men. One thing though, I've heard rumours that the waist tends to be tighter than the size suggests. Should I go up a size? I'm about a 33-inch waist.

How 'bout us "fat old men"? I've got a 38" girth 'round the midsection. What does that translate to?owen wrote:One thing though, I've heard rumours that the waist tends to be tighter than the size suggests. Should I go up a size? I'm about a 33-inch waist.

Re: another Mountain Kilt for me
Owen,
The Mountain Kilt is indeed a great garment for hiking or any other activity. It does run a bit tight in the waist. I have a 33-34 waist size. The M is OK, but just a tad snug. The L is very comfortable (at least to my thinking). I'd like to see it about an inch or two shorter. I also really like the Mountain Hardwear Magdalena Pack Wrap. It is shorter than the Mt. Kilt, has stretch fabric, and is extremely comfortable to wear, with no belts or buckles at the waist. It has a couple of velcro strips and a bar hook closure. It works great under the hip belt of a pack. And since it is last year's model, a number of places have it for under $30. Check out rei.com, who has it for $27. For me, a M is perfect. This gets my highest praise as a hiking skirt!
Good luck!

I'll put in another vote for the Mountain Hardware hiking kilt. I've worn mine on quite a few hikes. And yes, the size does run a bit snug!
I guess I'll have to look for the Magdalena Pack Wrap, too.

The Magdalena wrap skirt looks really nice. What size did you get, M or L, for that one? I couldn't get the size chart button to work.

G. Schubert:
I find a M in the Pack Wrap to be perfect size. The L will also work, but the velcro tab is right at the snuggest position possible. I may add a small strip of velcro tape to extend the sizing. But I'd say the M would probably work for anywhere from a 32 to maybe 35 inch waist. To be on the safe side, I have ordered multiple sizes, then returned the one that doesn't fit correctly. it is a bit of a hassle, but worth it to get the correct size first time. Good luck with the Magdalena, I hope you enjoy it as much as I do! Happy hiking!

The M sounds good. Thanks for the information and the tip on ordering a couple sizes at once.
