A Bead Magnet

Post by ChrisM »

During mardi gras the crowds line the parade routes and clamor for the attention of the costumed krewe-members on the parade floats. "Throw me something Mister" is the refrain. Hundreds of arms reach for the sky to try to attract the attention of the paraders, to catch the thrown beads, coins, whatever.

Well, I have found that wearing a skirt is a Bead Magnet. The paraders LOVE me in my kilt skirt, yelling "Great Kilt!" and other such things, and then they toss beads or other throws directly into my outstretched hands. I've got a lovely (growing) collection of medallions and coins, and here's a photo of the beads caught yesterday. Yes, all from ONE parade.

All the best,

Chris

I'm monitoring Yahoo news now, in the expectation that I'll see a headline like:

Kilted Mardi Gras Reveller Crushed To Death Under 3,723 Lbs. of Beads

Loot! What fun, Chris! Now if wearing a kilt was always this rewarding maybe they'd be more popular.

That reminds me. I really need to fix my Laserdisc player...

If you haven't seen it, "Who Framed Roger Rabbit" is a must see. Where else can one get an absolutely marvelous mix of slapstick, romance, and jut plain good ol' fun in one flick?!

"That was one seriously disturbed 'toon!"

I wore my black utilikilt to an outdoor concert the other day. The females were flashing their breasts for beads (not unusual). What took me by surprise was the beads offered to me. After many beers and some funny cigarettes that were being passed around, I got up the nerve to flash a little "cheek". I came home with a couple dozen strings of beads. My wife wanted to know how I got them. I had to lie and tell her I picked them up from the ground.
