Skirt Cafe is an on-line community dedicated to exploring, promoting and advocating skirts and kilts as a fashion choice for men, formerly known as men in skirts. We do this in the context of men's fashion freedom --- an expansion of choices beyond those commonly available for men to include kilts, skirts and other garments. We recognize a diversity of styles our members feel comfortable wearing, and do not exclude any potential choices. Continuing dialog on gender is encouraged in the context of fashion freedom for men. See here for more details.
Nice hot day today, so we visited a National Trust property (Lytes Cary near Yeovil), and had a very pleasant country walk. I wore a corduroy Union kilt and my wife wore - trousers.
She kept saying how hot she was and wished she'd worn a skirt. Just to rub it in, I replied with 'Yes, it's really is very pleasant and cool in a skirt'
As soon as we reached home, her trousers were off and a skirt was on.
Nice to be right for once
Charlie:
You've just jit on something. Most men are illing to wear shorts all summer long and most women today seem to have something against wearing skirts in any form.
But a skirt (or even a dress (tunic for a man)) is much cooler then anything that goes between your legs.
Good For You!
Maybe we need to start encouraging our women to go back to wearing skirts and dresses again and then an adjustment to men wearing skirts would seem just logical to some.

There is a problem with getting women to wear more skirts - it then becomes harder for us to have a "men's" skirt. Unfortunately women tend to find a good idea, take it, make it theirs and not let men have it back!
For example - hose was originally development for men. Women thought what a great idea and now what happens if a man wants to wear hose (or G_d forbid COLOURED hose!)
I know that if my other half "borrows" something I will never get it back - keep the women in jeans and pants and let us have the skirts.

Sounds good to me, comfort for everyone!
And about the hose, if I recall correctly Louis XIV was very proud of his calves and wanted them shown off in his portraits. Sadly, it is often only in skirts these days that men get a chance to show off their handsome legs other than dancing leotards, swimming trunks, or shorts and none of those are formal attire. I'm all for more ways for men to show off their attractiveness.
Bib overalls are my favorite bifurcated garment, and the U.S. cut is, to me, the most comfortable. I have 3 Key denim; 1 Key stripe (Casey Jones eat your heart out!) and 4 Carhartt. After all this is a fashion freedom site. Funny thing is that "She Who Must Be Obeyed" is more comfortable in my going out in a skirt than the stripe overalls which she forbids my wearing of in public. I have threatened to get the matching stripe cap, take a pocket knife, sit in the town centre and start whittling, however, S.W.M.B.O. points out rightly that I would be arrested for carrying a Weapon of mass destruction and suffer indefinite detention, probably on that bit of Cuba that has all those middle eastern characters. And I don't like flourescent orange combination overalls

Quiet Mouse.
Depends where you hang out -
* there are 'formal' styles of shorts in places like Queensland, some parts of Africa and Jamaica - and maybe Florida for all I know;
* there are 'formal' varieties of sarongs around some of the Pacific islands;
* you can also find 'formal' styles in skirt and dress style garments for men, in other places like India, China, Indonesia, Japan, and so-on and such-forth...

Hey Guys,
Let's be fair. Carl raids my closet, not the other way around. And he frequently forgets to return what he "borrowed"
SO don't put that behavior on us ladies!
As for the pants thing. I'm usually found in knit pants and a t-shirt. Its comfy and wearing the "uniform" is a habit.
But, I'm disabled and at home 99% of the time. I see no one, no one sees me. I don't see the need to dress up. If I go out, its to some fancy place like Wal-Mart or the grocery store. whoopie

King Henry VIII used to add padding to his calves (inside the hose) to make his legs look more sexy. And he wasn't exactly a nancy boy. Apparently it was very common and fashionable in those days for men (at least, the wealthy men) to show off their legs.
It's never too late to have a happy childhood . . .

What's this "She Who Must Be Obeyed" thing?
Sounds like the wizzard of OZ, with the bad witch.
What if they have florescent skirts?
It's nice and warm there...Plenty of fresh air.
You could always wear a striped set, knee length skirt with a striped jacket to match. Really sharp. I've seen them, they look great!

A man is the same man in a pair of pants or a skirt. It is only the way people look at him that makes the difference.
The " flourescent orange combination overalls " Is the prison garb.
You have NO CHOICE!
Or was your statement "You could always wear a striped set,
knee length skirt with a striped jacket to match. Really sharp.
I've seen them, they look great!" a bit of tongue-in-cheek?
