Wanna dish?

Post by sapphire »

Season 4 of Project Runway has begun. The Project Runway website has a gallery of fashions that were presented by the Projecct Runway designers at a recent show.

Anybody up to offering a critque of sosme of the fashions, let's say the first 10 out of the 46 displayed?

Go to http://www.bravotv.com, click on the link for Project Runway and then click on the Gallery.

Here's my take on the first 10:

1: Heidi is wearing my favorite color.

2: Latex tights?!?!? YUK. I do like the play of dark fabric against light fabric. I would prefer to see the waistline closer to the natural waistline, elingating the torso a bit. The skirt might translate for mensweear, but the bodice would not.

3: The proportion is off. Whatever the lower garment is, it should be longer to balance the length and weight of the blazer aand blouse. This look could translate to menswear

4: This would look better with a pencil skirt. I can see this look translating into menswear

5: Nice girl's dress. I don't se the Empire look translating well for men.

6: I really like this one. I think the bodice detail could be adapted for a man

7: This is a nice simple flirty look. The bodice is a variation on a t-shirt, only with a "softer" look. Again, my preference is that the waist be closer to the natural waistline. Would any of the guys here wear a skirt this flirty?

8: Huh? Is she wearing a sports bra backwards?

9:The knotted detail at the shoulders trows off the proportion of an otherwise simple sheath. Would any of the guys here wear a sheath dress?

10: OK as a nightgown. Bee pollen? Why?

What are your opinions of these 10 designs?

Actually, I was hoping that we could create a dialog critiquing the styles from the show and seeing if any of them could be modified for men to wear.

I know that those of you not in the US may not be able to get the Bravo network, so I thought we could start with what they have put up on te web.
Now that the new season has started, Bravo has updated the show's website.

The actual segment on the web is "Fierce Fashion Show" and the url is
http://www.bravotv.com/blog/thedish/200 ... s_take.php

If I have overstepped my bounds for suggesting this I apologise.

Hmmnn that is a very nice deep blue.

Latex tights? they look like shiny tights to me.

Yes, the proportion is important, but Ihave seen many minis worn with coats over them and that look alright. A lovely deep red blouse.

"This would look better with a pencil skirt. I can see this look translating into menswear "
Yes, as we are on a skirt forum, I agree.

5: Nice girl's dress. I don't se the Empire look translating well for men.
Have you seen men in similar? It's time the fashion people got on the band wagon and tried.

6: I really like this one. I think the bodice detail could be adapted for a man
Um I don't know. I do know that there are dress shirts for men with frills on front.

7: This is a nice simple flirty look. The bodice is a variation on a t-shirt, only with a "softer" look. Again, my preference is that the waist be closer to the natural waistline. Would any of the guys here wear a skirt this flirty? I do like this dress very much. Very nice for in the summer. Gives a nice airy, floating feel to it. And a very stunning colour, mmmmm.
( only for freestylers) This would be very nice to wear for brave men, I would imagine. I would like to wear it myself. As it looks as a roomy shirt above, and a nice loose skirt under.

8: Huh? Is she wearing a sports bra backwards?
Yes, it looks that way. Is a nice different effect than we have ben used to seeing.

9:The knotted detail at the shoulders throws off the proportion of an otherwise simple sheath. Would any of the guys here wear a sheath dress?

Definition: A sheath dress features a figure-hugging silhouette with a defined waist (no belt or waistband). This short (mid-calf or shorter) dress works well in sleeveless styles on well-toned bodies.

All depending on your body shape, I do like these dresses, armless, and with a turtle / roll neck very suitable. ( I don't know how my hairy arms would look in it? ) Might need to shave.

If you as a man wear top garments the same as used for dresses, and wear a skirt of the same material and line, then why not wear a dress?

10: OK as a nightgown. Bee pollen? Why?

As a night gown, as a dress too :)
Pollen? because of the colour effect?

All in all very interesting, Sapphire.

yeah, I had a look through about 39 of the pages and I didn't see much that would be applicable to a guy; the fashions all seem well put together for a woman, actually.

The flirty one you mentioned, sapphire, would be too windy for me! I'd say heavier, straigher styles with more bold linear patterns would convert some of these looks for guys. But overall, you can see these designers must spend a huge amount of time working out these looks and some of them are very clever.

I forget the page number but one model is wearing a swimsuit style with heavy-line tights and it looks cool. It's all clever stuff! Shame they can't turn some of that genius to men's styles too.
The only thing man cannot endure is meaninglessness.

I have to agree with Iain - not too much adaptable to men. For what it's worth, I liked these pages - but for women: 2, 3, 8, 16, 21, 22, 24, 26, 36, 37, 39, 41, and 42. What can I say? I'm a leg man!
