Long socks won't look much different than what you have, except that there would be a little bit of bare knee showing. I'd probably do black socks, since they'd match the boots and the cargo kilt. I've done pretty much the same, even though I am on the short side, when I've worn my black UK. If you want nylon socks, try some black trouser socks. They're opague enough that you can get away without shaving.
With respect to shaving, it doesn't take more than about 3-4 minutes to do while in the shower. I *normally* do it, but am not doing it this week or next. Got a wedding reception to go to and I may be wearing a traditional kilt around relatives that haven't seen me kilted before. So, I'm letting the hair grow back in, just so it doesn't look odd to them. Once the reception's over, off comes the leg hair.

Ricky, it is always good to read bout men going out into the world dressed the ways they want to be. Looking your outfit over the first thing that jumped out at me was how busy it was with the shine of the jacket (might have only been a flash effect), the dragon design, and the contrasting color skirt stitching. Add in the alternating black and white color scheme and there is a lot going on. Perhaps the skirt or shirt used with a plainer rest of the ensemble would allow them to be noticed better. Those dragons are too neat to not get their due notice!
Mind you, this is the opinion of the queen of what doesn't work but makes me happy to wear anyway.
