Skirt sighting in Manchester!

Post by Ray »

Not any old skirt wearer either, but Lance of MIDAS!

He was wearing an olive green skirt, big pleats, about 20 inches in length, with mid-brown suede boots (no heel) which came up to just below knee height. I think he also had on some (sheer) flesh tights. He was with a female friend, herself skirted, hosed and booted, and another woman in (ugh!) trousers.

Confession - I did not have the nerve to go up and say hi but I did walk past in my 3/4 length trousers with suntan Activskin hosiery in full view.

I'm quite excited - I've seen a skirting celebrity!

I wonder where he got his boots. I find that decent boots for a man are very difficult to get.

Hey Ray, did the combination of skirt and high boots look balanced? I'm imagining the space between boots and skirt wasn't too big. To me that would be almost too busy like the two items were in competition with each other. Adequate space can help make a breather between the two items competing for the viewer's attention.

Christopher, I mourn the rarity of boots in men's wardrobes and availablilty probably is partly to blame. It can be easy to scout about online and find red above the knee PVC six inch heels for guys but not so easy to find comparatively plainer models. Both have their uses but more serviceable boots will be a better match for a larger number of skirts.

Renaissance Festivals in the USA (seasonal parks often with a Tudor England theme) are always a good place to find bootmakers and they usually have a website too so Ren Fest sites are one place to look. It is more fun to shop in person though and you get instant sizing feedback. Give yourself a day of boot looking, if you don't end up with anything it just means the pleasure of shopping another day. Repeatedly coming up empty must be frustrating though.

Boots with a skirt

Post by knickerless »

I love to wear boots with a skirt. I also love the sight of boots worn with a skirt on men and women. The gap between the top of the boots and the hem emphasise the lack of trousers. I normally wear wellies with a denim skirt when walking the dogs in the wet weather. I have tried knee high boots meant for women but they tend to pinch my toes and make walking for a long period difficult. Boots made for men tend to be a bit on the expensive side and you never know how they are going to feel when worn for a period of time and this can be a bit of a gamble. If there is anyone looking to get rid of an old pair size ten - then let me know.

I met Lance once, at a meet up in "Bairminghem". He was cool -- at the time he said his manufacturing of skirts had been a bone of contention with his female s/o.

But he seemd unfazed by any such hassles and I'm sure if you'd gone up to him he'd have been very pleased to talk. Great guy

QM - the boots went really well with the skirt. I would guess that the gap between the two was about 8 inches; greater than the gap many women go with. I would guess (on reflection) that the skirt hem was about 4 inches above kneecap midpoint, and the boots 4 inches below (thus slightly - slightly shorter than your normal "knee high" boots).

Put it this way, there was enough leg for me to spot hosiery (with my trained eye! :D )

It's true about mens boots. Riding boots can work well, but the cost is huge and the colour choice limited.

Tell me about it. I went into TKMAXX last week and looked at boots. The womens section had just got boots in for the autumn and winter season and they had approximately 20 or 30 different styles of boots there. You know . . . high ones, medium ones, low ones. Leather ones, suede ones. Brown ones, black ones, pink ones. Plain ones, fancy ones . . . you get the idea.

In the mens section. A couple of pairs of engineers boots - like Dr. Martens. And that was it. I nearly screamed in frustration.

I'm happy enough buying womens boots, but the shops usually only have up to size 8 and I'm a 9. I have bought a couple of pairs of womens boots size 9 from eBay and there are places on the net like VivaLaDiva.com that sell womens size 9 in EEE widths.

I find it frustrating as I like boots with a short skirt.

Thanks for the additional numbers Ray. I'd been sitting at the computer figuring on my stumpy legs and of course it would be different on a man. Sounds like it really was an attractive proportion.

I too have been frustrated in finding suitable boots to wear that will fit UK size 10 feet. Have any of you who have been fortunate enough to visit Crete considered the Cretan mens boot? You can't get more macho! But they're not cheap.
