Today is the 3rd anniversary of the Million Skirted Men march in NYC. We marched in skirts approximately 1 mile from the Guggenheim Museum to the Metropolitan Museum of Art, then viewed the exhibit "Bravehearts: Men in Skirts" by John Paul Gauthier. There was dinner afterwards at Lumi's Restaurant. (See http://www.bravehearts.us/msm_million_skirting_men_.htm ) The event was organized mainly by Lar and the late Tom Manuel. It received international press attention.
It was an exciting and memorable day. I'd like to know who has any thoughts on this event after 3 years has passed. For me, not much has changed. Although I wore a skirt all day that day, I cannot do so normally due to family and job concerns. It's not a perfect world yet.

I wasn't wearing a skirt three years ago - and I wasn't aware of the march - or, indeed, the issues surrounding men who chose to wear skirts of any kind.
So I can't say much. I can only applaud you - and all the other men who marched on that day - for having the courage and committment to stand up and be counted as an individual who choses to wear whatever he d*mn well feels like.

It's never too late to have a happy childhood . . .
Hello Brad...
Three years gone by already. Good to hear from you. MSM showed me that there are many men who want to wear skirts and kilts as everyday garments. I've since then started wearing kilts to work, where they are accepted by most people. I've also started wearing skirts out, similar to what you wore that day, (http://www.skirtcafe.org/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=515&d=1150260520 ) with little negative reaction. I think that there has been some progress since then in acceptance, so long as you present yourself as a man in a skirt.

Well I never heard of the march at the time either. Although I had started wearing a kilt to work in January 2003 when a leg injury kept me out of trousers for a few weeks, three years ago I still wore trousers more days than kilts and had yet to discover kilt and skirt forums on the internet. Now I rarely wear trousers (only one trousered day since Christmas) and I now own twelve kilts and two skirts.

Yes Brad I remember that day,I rode to NY with Tom.He and I were friends. We attended a number of events togather.I will all ways remember him as a good friend and a SUPER PERSON!
He was a one of a kind.
Back then I wore a kilt or skirt most of the time as I do now.I do think it is more accepted by the general public now than then.

Wow... 3 years already.
At the time I printed out the articles and thought that this was the beginning, it wouldn't be long before men's skirts become mainstream.
I have to say that 3 years on (at least in Australia) nothing much has changed. I have not seen other men wearing skirts and I have yet to see a man's skirt in a shop.
Having said that, my attitude has changed and I am now (relatively) comfortable going out in a skirt. I also discovered that my waist to hip ratio is closer to a woman's than a man's so I look and feel better in pants and skirts designed for women. The irony is that even if I could buy a man's skirt it wouldn't fit and would look wrong on me anyway. Isn't life a joke sometimes.
