You're having a laugh
I have just been looking on another forum, the female first one and i saw this post under the fashion section
" I think you will look too strange, and you will lose your job. Go out on the street, and see how many men in skirts you see. How many did you count?
You see, they only exist on the internet as wierdos in forums called 'SkirtCafe' and the like. Stay in trousers, mate. Summer's over, so you won't get hot, plus you can sit like guys do, not like a sissy. How will your passengers feel if they ask you to load their bags for them as you take them from Park Lane Hilton down to the Airport?
Think about it, use yer loaf. Don't believe everything you read on the Net. People will cuss you and then you will end up as an unemployed battyman in a skirt"

Absolutely right I didn't.
Nope, didn't see but one man in a skirt other than me yesterday, didn't see ANY men in speedos, none with missing arms either, but I'm sure there are some somewhere. Seeing hundreds of men wearing comfortable clothes is very rare, (MIS March) most men are completely stuck in the "lemmings/penguin" look and wouldn't dare venture out of it like their wives did a few years back when they realized trousers fit their anatomy better than skirts and dresses did. I've realized that too, but I never have been much of a conformist. I was (and I'm quite proud of this) the first man in Ft. Lauderdale Florida to do 2 things and get arrested for both. In 1968 the state of Florida passed the mandatory helmet law for motorcyclists, I got the first ticket by the cops for not wearing my helmet on my head...( I was wearing it on my knee) I got off on that cause the law didnt specifically say it had to be on your head.
In 1962 I was the first man in Ft. Lauderdale to be arrested for having hair longer than the tops of my ears (just after the Beatles arrived in America). Someday, if I live long enough, I might also be arrested by another simpleton for wearing a skirt. Ya just never know when the ugly spectre of conformity will rear its head and do something stupid.

It's obvious he's curious about this topic but, as much as he'd love to do it, he hasn't yet found the courage to try skirt-wearing for himself.
Kev - it's not anywhere near as difficult as you think. You don't lose your job (I haven't lost mine!). Your friends and neighbours may think your sartorial habits are a wee bit odd, but they won't let it change the way they treat you. Some guys do get resistence from their wives - but you simply have to point out that you never stop them wearing trousers.
In the end, a skirt is just a bit of cloth. On men, the worst you can say about it is that it is a bit unorthodox. So what? Are we men or sheep? If you want to wear one, wear one. If you don't - don't.
Unlike many other human activities, skirt-wearing doesn't hurt anyone: it's entirely inoffensive.

the job
i have applied for a management position in my company. they are aware of my skirt-wearing, and i am the FRONT-RUNNING APPLICANT for the position.
my managers have told me that my choice of clothing is NOT an issue. it is not even thought about. what is considered is my work record, and the client-satisfaction that i bring to the job.
i think that some folks simply haven't found the right place to be.
or maybe i'm just the luckiest SOB on the planet.
either way, just keep trying. i'm walking, talking proof that it CAN happen!

May not be an issue now, but being a manager is very politically-charged, and you may get challenged by a subordinate if a situation should arise.r1g0r wrote:i have applied for a management position in my company. they are aware of my skirt-wearing, and i am the FRONT-RUNNING APPLICANT for the position.

On management, skirts, and derision
This is true, but I believe you'll find that if an individual comports himself (or herself) in an absolutely fair, ethical, and honourable manner the mode of attire that the person chooses to wear will fade into the background. Yes, this is vital for managers (or, in the Dilbert world, "Managers", but those are exempt from the normal rules that make us human), but is also extremely important for everybody. It's one's actions that get one noticed in a sane environment, not one's appearance. Of course this might just be a fantasy induced by the impingement of rational thought.binx wrote:May not be an issue now, but being a manager is very politically-charged, and you may get challenged by a subordinate if a situation should arise.
As far as the thread on "Femalefirst.co.uk" goes, one needs to take a look at the intended audience. The general impression I get is that the site is littered with lemmings who refuse (which is worse than unable) to question "common wisdom". What we're dealing with here is fundamentally meaningless in the broader context of things, and that may be one of the reasons that the "less well-informed" (that's put as politely as I can manage it) rail about it -- they can, with no consequences -- unlike tackling real problems like what's happening on the world stage at the moment. What's more pressing -- global climate change; torture of prisoners; crippling poverty; starvation; acts of genocide -- or what some random bloke wants to wrap 'round his nether bits? Except for the fact that the uneducated can excoriate a chap in a skirt for more easliy than they can offer insight and solution to other, more pressing, issues.
