I believe the "go away" page was put on the CitySkirt web site in response to the DoS (denial of service) attack -- a sad form of cyber-vandalism to attack websites.

I saw that too and figured it was directly aimed at the persons attacking him.

I did get an email from Dan saying he was ending things for CitySkirt.
I hope it's not forever, but whatever is done needs to be done for his personal well-being.

Anyone want to pick up that ball and run with it?

At least it's propagated itself

Post by DanR »

That's good news; I'd hope that my Go Away message would propagate across the Google crawler and other search engine spiders. (You old schoolers know what I'm talking about.) Sometimes old tricks are the best tricks, eh?

CitySkirt is indeed in a coma. (There's only so much hatred a person can take before you have to turn off the spigot. CitySkirt had become such a spigot.) September has seen a firehose of hate out of people not only on the web but on the radio and via e-mail as well.

For accounting purposes, CitySkirt will continue on as an umbrella holding company for my other ventures. (Re-branding is very expensive.) Will I be re-issuing any mens skirts? Doubtful.

If you already have my e-mail address, you can send me a message. If you don't, you're out of luck.

The problem is, that those of us who still wish to make a purchase of a man's skirt have one less source.

Reconsider opening the site.

To answer any lingering questions

I have posted the last update to the CitySkirt web page. It features a Q&A table that should clear up any questions anyone might have regarding the shutdown.

Wow, I have no idea what got said, or how much venom came in, but I guess it was "one heck" of a lot. 'Tis a pity so many of the members of our so-called "society" are so narrow-minded and vitriolic about things they don't necessarily understand.

Time will heal the wounds, but I agree, nobody should be subject to that kind of abuse regardless what it was.

I am sorry to learn that you are shutting down the men's line. I have to wonder how civilise our society really is. It really shows that our world is still full of bullies.

Anyway

Anyway, as DanR said, I am about to poke myself in the eye with a sharp stick and offer custom skirt making to anyone that wants it. I have this really fancy computerized Euro-Pro sewing machine, enjoy sewing and have sewn myself over 40 skirts in the last 3 months. Hardly have anywhere to keep them all without making my room look like the back room of a Haberdashery shoppe. I buy my material off ebay and am (in my opinion) a pretty good chooser of quality material (as long as it's material with a cotton base, ie: large percentage or all cotton(easier to sew). Some of the skirts I've made recently (I get better with practice) look nearly if not completely professionally made.

There are a few parameters I do follow and if anyone wishes to buy from me, must also follow. I only make straight, pencil or A-line skirts. Nothing full or feminine looking (in my opinion) because this is what I wear and have the most experience sewing. No pleats, I also only make patch pockets but I am good at making seams and hems that cannot unravel the first or any time the skirt is washed. I use denim, twill and patterned cotton and can convert anyones shorts or trousers into skirts in a short period of time, I've converted about 10 pairs of shorts into skirts for myself.

I will charge in this way, all work must be paid for in advance, I'll charge $10.00 USD per hour of work + the costs of material, buttons or zippers etc. if needed or preferred. Patch pockets will be charged $3.00 USD each and you can have as many as you like on your skirt. devided patch pockets will cost $4.00 each. ( I prefer the devided ones over undevided ones) ie: junk/keys/identification etc. in one side, cellphone in other side or whatever fits in a 3 in. wide, 6 in. long pocket. The other front pocket will have a velcro closure to keep things from getting out if you have an active lifestyle.

If anyone is interested in giving me a try, I'd assume the final product would cost no more than about $40.00 USD. for knee length to mid calf length or less. Walking slits or vents in the rear or sides are extra but no more than a patch pocket.

I can't afford a web site at this time so all orders will have to be made and processed thru posts in either Skirt Cafe or IMFF or my email address of SkirtedMan@aol.com . Patience is of the essence since I'm retired and haven't run a home business for at least 25 years. I was successful the last time I did it tho. I created and sold custom built fishing rods for a select group that are mostly still using them. That's about all I can think of now. Thanks for considering this option. Most online seamstresses or tailors charge upwards of $20.00 USD per hour for any work and more for custom work, I'm retired so don't need too much extra money. I will do this primarily for the activity. I get bored with too much online poker.
