I posted this picture on another forum (community forum), and got a few remarks. Now I'd be interested to hear your opinions. Afterwards, I'll tell you all what the community people thought about the look.

Looks just fine to me. Very masculine with those boots. I can't tell if thats a skirt or a kilt. It's a nice look tho.

The reaction I got on the community forum (catering for goths/EBM/darkwave/rock-people) was almost entirely negative. The worst being "you look like a dad trying to be 16 again. That one pretty bummed me out. I've always been a sub-cultural being, but knowing my limitations. This 'outfit', or call it what you will, I thought, was pretty casual. But apparently not so. Ive gone dressed like this to the work office without any comments what-so-ever. So Im not really sure what gives.

That rig looks OK to me. Personally I don't like boots, but that's just my opinion -- the overall look works well enough. Why you got grief over it I don't understand.

The "trying to be 16 again" crack was off the mark completely; no 16-year-old would be caught dead in anything other than the uniform they wear these days. (Is it still jeans and tee-shirts?)

Two questions: What's the gray fabric at the top-front of the skirt, the liner that should be underneath? And that pendant worn appears to be a cross? Those might be issues for a community. IMHO would prefer that the shirt not appear below the jacket at the side of the skirt. Otherwise, it looks OK to me.

There is an old saying 'Consider the source, then ignore it.' From what little I've seen of goth clothing websites, my choice's would be totally trashed also.

Since I have no desire to dress up in their uniform I feel safe in my choices. Since you have already have a positive reaction from work, I'd say you are on the right track.

Do what you please and ignore those snobby teenagers. I don't think you are tryng to recapture your youth by any mean. You are just comforable being who you are. I am turning 34 in a few months and I can tell you that I still wear my Doc Martens and wear my Bauhaus T-Shirt. Of course, I love to pair them with my kilts as well.

Kilts may be rebellious to certain degrees, but most people, young and old, wear them beccause they like the kilt and unique.

As far as the boots go, I like them. If I have longer legs, I will be all over them!!! I can only wear :hissyfit: 8-holes.

Don't let those Snobby goths tell you what to do..... Now I wonder whether I acted that way when I was much younger.....

Binx: the thing in front is a hipster-bag (or whatever you call them in English). I got it from a rave/techno-store. And you're correct; the pendant is indeed a cross. How so? I dont see how that could be a deal...

bcmtnbka: Thanks, I've always myself told myself not to give up on what I believe to be my principals. Coming from a very mixed cultural background, I was left to my own devices to discover myself. I do not intend to stray from my sub-cultural belonging so easily

Just that as you grow older, you need to do it with a bit more finess than what was required if you as a teenager.
