Wearing Sandals with skirts and kilts

Post by Dasani »

As far as I'm concered (depending on the sandals) I think that sandals can be very much a Mans footwear. However, I am wondering if wearing sandals together with skirts as a guy would possibly be viewed as too fem for most people. And would it be some kind of ettiquette sin to wear sandals with a kilt?

I love my sandals, and I love to wear them with my skirts, and they are the only shoes I have that I like wearing with my skirts. But not sure if that would be too much on the fem side for some people. And if I get a kilt, I would probably want to wear my sandals with it too. I guess the only time there is really an etiquette and fashion problem with kilts is in a formal kilt wearing situation huh?

There seems to be a few that are picky about what shoes are worn with what garments. I wear Birkenstock sandals a lot and their not at all fem. I do agree with some that a kilt and cowboy boots might not be a good idea, but sandals should be fine! :)

I think sandals hints at the Ancient Greek warrior and they look great with a skirt. Greeks wore them with mini skirts and Romans with togas, so I think they're fine. They work well with a sarong too.

I always wear formal black shoes with a formal Scottish kilt, but often wear trainers with casual kilts so I don't think you'd have a problem with sandals.

I think my sandals look better with my unbifurcated-ness than any other footwear. So does my wife.

I wear sandals with a sarong, since the whole idea is to keep cool.

I wore a Union kilt, plus knee-high socks and shoes to a barn dance. After a while, my feet got hot so I substituted sandals for the shoes. Result - instant comfort, and a comment from my son-in-law that I shouldn't wear sandals with socks  I said it's a silly unwritten rule that need breaking :D

Ha ha yes the clasic "should not wear socks with sandals" rule. I wear socks with my sandals all the time. People just get it in their head that something shouldn't be, and they will fight it to the death:-)

But recently I actually have started liking my feet more than I used to. One of the reasons I used to wear socks was to cover my ugly feet, but they really don't look bad at all now, so I have started wearing my sandals without socks more.

A little paint on the toenails makes the feet look a whole lot better.:cheer:

I have an older pair of Teva sandals that have a leather "lattice" type of strap arrangement over the toes. I've worn them with black kilt hose and my traditional kilts without anyone commenting on it. The socks with sandals rule, like the trousers only rule for men, is meant to be broken.

I'm one of those who hates socks with sandals. I have three pairs of sandals for all occasions (yes) - fabric tevas - good for walking in, and two leather pairs which are smarter. One pair's got the strap between big toe (like flip flops), so sock are out anyway with those. if you have to wear socks, please don't wear white ones!

But I find you do have to look after your feet, otherwise they dry out and the dirt sticks. :yuck:

Best thing I've found is from Lush (UK company), called Skin Sin. Comes in big bottles and keeps the skin hydrated. Means the skin doesn't harden so much, or crack, and they wash cleaner. Also, I have quite brittle nails which can split downwards :( (ouch!), and it stops them doing this.

Skin sin is described as for the older woman in the latest catalogue  I didn't realise moisturisers were gender specific.

Agreed. I usually have some color on my toenails. However, if i do have nail polish on my toenails I won't wear sandals with a skirt or kilt. It's too much, for me. I love having painted toenails.

New pair of Milanos

Post by Since1982 »

I have a new pair of Birkenstock Milanos coming from Ebay, just like with every other pair of sandals I've bought in my life that had buckled straps, I'll wear socks with these too until my foot tops get used to having a metal buckle on my skin in a new place, then I'll probably go sockless in the summer and socked in the winter. (If I wear sandals in the winter at all, so far I haven't). I don't think of wearing socks with sandals as a fashion statement but as a "keeping the skin ON my upper feet in place and not bloody" thing. With time, wearing the socks, the skin under the buckles will become calloused and not get raw from the buckles, and only then will I wear the new sandals without socks. Of course, people with tougher feet probably don't need socks at all, but my feet don't fall into that category. :)

Sandals AREN'T "Feminine"

Post by DavidsSkirts »

... and no, you don't wear socks with sandals. Your feet should be allowed to breathe whenever possible...

Leather sandals are macho; Teva/Shukas type sandals are outdoorsy and macho; Birkenstocks are trendy/cool/fashionable...

Fashion "labels" and "rules" aren't always a bad thing, are they ?

Jesus, Buddha, Mohammed and Ghandi all wore sandals (with or without socks - they tended to dress simply, and how they liked..); and I would not have called any of them "fem' " - would you ?

;)

I came up with a good outfit last summer--lightweight tartan with brown/cream colouring, brown sandals, white vest, and beige long sleeved shirt with rolled up sleeves, worn loose over the top of everything. Diesel shoulderbag, long strap.

sandals were leather and naturally, worn with no socks--had a great day in london on one of the hottest days of the year. lots of guys seemed really envious because it was way, way too hot for the jeans they were wearing, and I was cool the whole day.

I had to wear sandals while toenail surgery healed. Wore the full argyll kilt outfit with a plaid, wore black kilt hose with sandals for Tartan Day weekend festival. Got a couple of "handsome" compliments, plus a couple of poses for pix. Must be OK to have kilt and socks with black sandals...I think that my Cityskirt washed denim looks great with sandals as well.
