Found a Skort maker that puts Bike Pads in a Skort but they were too expensive and not available in my size so I improvised.
I wear padded bike shorts with a tennis skirt when on my Bike, no one will confuse me as a serious bike rider.

The Power Bike and local trains have become my preferred choice of transportation since I quit working back in 2020. Most trips are to meet someone or to pick up a couple of small items so no need to take the truck.

Another skirted bike ride

Post by shadowfax »

I thought that I would try another skirted bike ride today.

On my previous, skirted bike ride, I found it awkward and inelegant to lean my folding bike away from myself to get my leg over the crossbar.
The crossbar is 25" high (63cm).

I saw earlier in this thread, a post from derail3, which has a link to a YouTube video of a tall, skirted young lady showing a technique of elegantly riding away on a bike with an even higher crossbar.

I found that by putting the left-hand pedal at the 9-o'clock position, stepping down hard on it and giving the bike a push forward, I could get enough forward momentum to decorously, lift my right leg over the crossbar without flashing my underwear.
I also found that whilst coasting to a halt to get back off the bike, I could lift my right leg over the crossbar and coast to a stop with my left foot still on the pedal.

My denim skirt is made from a stretchy denim and has a short kick-pleat at the bottom of the back seam and didn't flip back as I rode along.

My outfit was:-
Helikon-Tex Denim, UTL Skirt (A-line skirt) (17" long)
Sheertex Black Classic tights (pantyhose)
Black roll-neck jersey
Black patent, 3" high, block heels with a strap (T-bar)
White crash helmet
Black cycling mitts

I wasn't sure whether to put this in the "How Short ............ " topic or this one.
A group of us rode out to visit someone on a propery not far out of town. I asked a female cyclist to get a photo of me of me riding in a 11.5" mini skirt to see if I maintained modesty. I think that all I can see is the nose of the black bicycle seat.
This is my newly aquired mixte framed bike, a style referred to ealier in this thread. I still can not get my foot over the bar after kicking off so I still find it easier to do the dog leg kick over the seat ........... yet to be caught on film.

I was not confident that a 11.5" skirt gave me enough modesty around town, despite wearing black underwear (matching the bike seat) and reluctant to put on a 14" skirt just to go out on the bike. I am now experimenting with pulling on a pair of non-padded bike shorts on underneath without needing to remove the 11.5" mini. One can see a bit of the legs of the bike shorts below the hem which may help to diminish the perception that is may be my underwear. I did wear a very short pleated skirt (pictured in my post regarding compliments) which nicely draped between my legs looking much like shorts ....... not that it mattered much as it was a night time ride.
I do love riding bicycles and wearing mini skirts, hence I would be interested in JeffB's opinion because he is riding a bicycle in a mini skirt.

Looks fine Anthony,
between the handle bar and the seat, there's nothing that is at least obvious from what is visible in that picture.

While I do ride bikes myself, and I'm looking at getting a new road bike probably next month, I can't say I've ridden around wearing a skirt.

Many memories of seeing the girls riding to school on bikes in their school uniform skirts (and kilts inn the winter), when I was at high school 35 to 40 years ago.

Ask, and you shall receive! Well now, 11.5 inches certainly IS daring, given my height (6 foot 2), too daring for me, but, if it works for you, keep on keeping on! As for me, I wore a 15 incher on my outing with black bike pants beneath it (for padding, not modesty) and it was fun! I'm already planning to buy a padded seat cover so I can ditch the pants and roll with just the skirt on future rides!

Riding a bike is like swimming for me. I wear clothing appropriate to the activity. Cycling shorts for cycling; swimming trunks for swimming.

I don’t wear skirts for either activity.

I ride sometimes just for pleasure, but more often to run errands, dressed for the errand, which means a miniskirt or knee-length, preferably with some stretch, nothing shorter than 40 cm/16". I swim in a black men's bikini-brief and my underwear (also black) offers as much coverage, so I don't see why it should be an issue. And indeed I've never had any problem or complaint, or noticed any startled looks. My favorite is a skirt intended for women to put on over cycling shorts after dismounting, to enter a shop, restaurant, etc. I just wear it as a skirt. It has an off-center vent in front, which leaves a panel free to drop between my legs as I ride -- that one is perfectly modest.

Do you have any more details on that (brand, etc)? I'm always looking for a good cycling skirt...complicated by me often riding a recumbent bike which naturally exposes a bit more.
