The problem, Steve, is money, really. My wife says that she will always love me whatever what but I get the impression that there are lines that, if crossed, would not stop her deciding that, love or not, she could no longer live with me. Division of resources could be painful.
I believe in offering every assistance short of actual help but then mainly just want to be left to be myself in all my difference and uniqueness.

The question, then, becomes "Who will it be more painful for?" (And I sincerely hope it never comes to that!) Could this be used as a talking point to perhaps gain some understanding? (That's a leap you may not be willing to undertake, and I entirely sympathise with that.)

Anyway, who am I to carry on? I'm 0 for 3, and 4 is entirely unlikely to happen.

I tried to do a rough survey on a couple of train journeys to the office. It’s not scientific, but I see a wide variety of ages, cultural backgrounds and working environments on my way to work. The first trip suggested about 2:1 in favour of trousers (about 33% wearing skirts). The second was much busier so I couldn’t keep accurate count but I reached about 4:3 or possibly 5:4 in favour of trousers (between 40% and 55% in skirts). The latter may have been enhanced by school girls in uniform, but I expected to see many more trousers due to the cold, wet weather.

Anyway, skirts are not disappearing in London.

Noticed a woman wearing a skirted rig in a gas station, talking to the employee. Looked like a short dress worn over black tights. Or would the term be "tunic" :?:

Is the woman's world really that barren of skirts that one wearing a dress, tunic, skirt --at a gas station is worthy of note -- Kind of like our "sightings in the wild" for MIS?

I know the subject line says "skirt" wearing -- but most of the talk has been about women adopting pants as their 'standard' fare; thus, I figure women in skirts, dresses, tunics -- any of the so-called "feminine" clothing all count as part of the body of women wearing skirts.

There are also quite a few women in "traditional feminine attire" and many of those that are wearing a form of pants, interestingly are ones designed to look like skirts! I'm not counting the flared shorts that seek to appear as skaters skirts; or graduated leggings that appear to be a skirt -- but that does seem to suggest women still like the skirt look.

Here, for everyday about town normal events it seems the number of women in 'skirts' (including dresses, tunics, or similar) probably runs about 15-20% -- and increases with attendance at more formal activity.

In the Seattle area, yes, it is that barren.

Except for the hottest days of the year, or the most formal of occasions.

Just realized something-I hardly look at women's clothing anymore. In my youth it was much more interesting, but there has been a long term trend towards dullness.

Come to think of it, I seldom look at anybody's clothing.

Here on Madeira, where I have been for a while, I believe that the number of women wearing skirts and dresses is quite high, possibly around 30%. Of course it's not a good example because this is mostly a vacation destination. The local women, especially the older ones, are the highest percentage of dress/skirt wearers for sure. As for the men, there's just me and one other. And I'm not sure if the other one was a skirt or not.

There was The Great Male Renunciation starting around 1750. Sad to say, we are now witnessing The Great Female Renunciation. I see women overwhelmingly wear dull outfits with trousers. I have rebelled against both renuntiations by wearing floral pattern dresses when I'm out tin public.

Weather forecast indicated that today would be a hot day. Late in the morning I noticed a little girl in a dress, and a woman in a dress.
