Fact is that the world and his dog aren't in favour of men in skirts.
Not men, not women just people who for a myriad of reasons dislike any dissent or non conformity of any kind.
Our mission must be one of winning hearts and minds by demonstrating all the possible positives that we can.
Not easy, but nothing worthwhile rarely is.

The above is the stance I held for years. With the current societal mess in what was my country I've abandoned all hope and have gone back into drab mode.

If you have never seen males that you know routinely wearing skirts and only seen females wearing them, then there's a disorientation element and the viewer will seek an explanation to reorientate themselves. That explanation will likely be either attributing it to some kind of sexual cause - like being trans, or a mental abnormality - the bloke is a weirdo. The only resolution is to normalise it; just present yourself as you always do and it's just a clothing option in the same way females have the same options.STEVIE wrote: ↑Thu Jan 16, 2025 2:19 pm Fact is that the world and his dog aren't in favour of men in skirts.

Yes, it's a skirt, and this is a sweater and these are shoes. I'm a human. I wear clothes. What's the big deal?

I wouldn't [revert to drab mode]. That's what they want. Resist.
Recall, I started wearing skirts in 2015, at that time, Obama was president, but we were already swinging hard right as a nation, and at the time Virginia was a redish state (and still is), I also spent a great deal of time in Tennessee, whose political allegiance is without question.
In 2016, I had some anonymous [coward] report a photo of me harmlessly wearing a skirt on social media to my employer [at the time] in a bid to get me terminated and basically "cancel" me into obedience.
I resisted. My website was combed over by HR behind my back where something I wrote apparently got them off my back. But my wife will recall I was nevertheless prepared to take my punishment in the chin. I resolved that should I be terminated for this, I would bow out gracefully, often citing the bit of scripture "what shall it profit a man if he gains the world but loses his soul".
My soul is a part of me, and my outward expression in how I clad myself is an expression of my soul. To deny me that is to deny my most basic and fundamental liberties. At the end of the day, if Food City fired me, I would have respected that (I had no choice anyway), but I refused to sell out my soul to the beast. If I had to live on the street, then that's how it would be. Ultimately I did not get fired.
Oddly enough 2016 was the first time my wife and I seriously considered Washington State, but we stayed and fought the good fight, and we won that battle. Ironically it would be a a couple of self professed "Liberals" back east sticking their nose where it didn't belong that would serve as the catalyst for us to pull up anchor and move out west.
But make no mistake, we didn't come here to dodge conservatives, if nothing else, I've learned that the populous is just as right wing here as in Tennessee, and if my encounter last week at the Arlington Walmart is any indication, it looks like they are about to turn up the heat...
To that I say "BRING IT"! Dealing with prejudice and bigotry is old hat for me. I've fought this fight before and I'll do it again.
They ain't dealing with some Seattle hipster hiding behind a face mask... no, I'm an old hillbilly from the Appalachian mountains, I cut my teeth in greasy spots all over the southeast, I DON'T SUBMIT, I'll cut a motha-f_cka.
They may get me yet, but they'll still be limping back either way. I'll stop being me when they PUT ME IN THE GROUND.
F-ck these people! Next time I'll wear my HOOP!

On second thought.... maybe it is about time to change up my wardrobe a little...

I like it.... if they leave me alone, I'll leave them alone. If there's an issue, well, then I guess we got business.

There's no point for me. I had my time in the sun, and I enjoyed it. Now the clouds of winter are upon us, and I absolutely feel the chill.moonshadow wrote: ↑Thu Jan 16, 2025 5:40 pmI wouldn't [revert to drab mode]. That's what they want. Resist.
I've been knocking around for a bit longer, and the lurch towards the hard right happened initially in the late 1970s and early 1980s (right around the time of the overthrow of the Shah of Iran), culminating with the overthrow of the Republic of the United States of America at which time -- like the Soviet Union -- devolved into the oligarchy it is now. I've been here the whole time, and I've been paying attention -- and it breaks my heart.Recall, I started wearing skirts in 2015, at that time, Obama was president, but we were already swinging hard right as a nation, and at the time Virginia was a redish state (and still is), I also spent a great deal of time in Tennessee, whose political allegiance is without question.
I suspect this is the last time I'll complete an orbit around the Sun, and that's fine by me, because none of the support systems I was counting on are likely to be there now that I'm getting close to needing them. Thanks Elon, Bill, Mark, Jeff, and the rest of the Forbes 500. It would have been nice to see the Great Experiment hold at least until I was gone. Thank the gods that my ancestors are all gone; they'd have taken up arms by now -- and been gunned down by lawnforcement [SIC].
Sometimes the fight is just not worth it. I put on head-to-toe black male drab the day after the "election" and haven't really looked back save to swap out shirts and occasionally do laundry. I see no real reason to change it.
That's the problem with republics. They're fragile, weak, and require engagement of an informed and intelligent electorate. How do you think the modern USA ranks on "informed" and "intelligent"? I'm not confident in the least.

Re: 2 in 5 men regularly wear women’s fashion
Carl,
I understand that it is difficult to watch the absolute ugliness take hold in our world today, and I won't patronize you with those old tired cliche's of "it will get better", "hang in there", etc. It seems as though it will get a lot worse before it gets better (if it ever does).
BUT
You need to know, you're a good man, one that I'm proud to call a friend, and I hope this isn't your last circuit around our star because on the day you do breathe your last, know that I will weep and weep hard. You've had an impact on my life personally, I always enjoy our conversations, and in many ways I look at you as a role model and somewhat of a "older brother", one whose advice I always take to heart.
I don't want you to stop being who you are, and I don't want you to let this world take you that way. It's not over until it's over, and as long as you have another breath to inhale, there's always time to make a difference.
You have a friends here and I'm certain friends at home, people that care about you and value you as a person and a human, even if your government doesn't. Screw the oligarchs! They sold their soul, you still have yours, and it's a beautiful soul Carl. Don't hide it, don't cover it.
You know what my retirement plan is Carl? I'm going to cash out what little amount I could stash over the years, buy a van, and just live in it, traveling from place to place, doing odd jobs until I can't do anymore. If I get hungry and can't afford food, I'll steal it, I figure they robbed me of my social security, they owe me anyway. I don't even care if they take Medicare because I have no plans to pay any medical bills anyway.
I don't care what they take away, because as long as I have another breath to draw, I'll find a way. I'm just not going to worry about it, what good would it do anyway? We all will die eventually, but my goal is for me to protect my happiness. They won't take that from me, they won't take my spirit or my soul.
Wear what makes you happy Carl, Lord knows it's probably all we have left anymore, so enjoy it.

You think you have it rough... try being my age and having absolutely nothing to look forward to, not even a measly social security stipend.

I'll go down resisting, although non-violently. Use your attire to reject the wrong that is going on.

Re: 2 in 5 men regularly wear women’s fashion
I talk to a woman who was wearing jeans and said she believes bible says men has the right to control what others wear. Her clothing was contradicting what she was saying. She offer me to come back next day and she would reveal the bible verse to me that where God gave man total control what everyone wears. Problem here is that there is men who still preach women can't wear pants in different churches. In past these churches cited women in being sluts and whores to control them from wearing pants, Since she has enough intelligence to know she can wear pants in regardless what man say who can wear what, shows she have enough intelligence that bible verse is being cited in wrong fashion. By this todays modern woman has the intelligence know better keep spreading what is not truthful. I walk away from this young woman reminding her where God made Adam and Eve same garments. I was making the point God has no problem in with man and woman can wear same clothing and this young woman wearing jeans represent the truth she knows. Therefor she should be held accountable what she says regardless what she is taught.Barleymower wrote: ↑Wed Jan 15, 2025 8:37 pm Mr S. It's not unreasonable what you are saying, it does happen but women are not to blame! If you get down to the grass roots of it, religion has a massive part to play in our attitudes. Christians, Jewish and Muslims all see any gender non conformity as unnatural. The prejudices we experience now are all hangovers from when anything unnatural was, and still is in a lot places, dealt with severely.
Yes women do all the things you say and they can hit the roof when a man does the same with cries of pervert etc. It's not fair I know but they are behaving as they have been taught to behave.
What do we do about? We fight back. Not by getting angry because will just make things worse. Instead we take the lead as men and we say "I'm wearing this skirt because I like it".

Re: 2 in 5 men regularly wear women’s fashion
Uh-oh, man speaking for God again.
Well, I'll make a deal with man...
When poverty is eliminated
When greed no longer rules
When nobody goes hungry
When everyone's illnesses are treated
When homelessness is eliminated
When the drug war is over
When everyone is treated with dignity
When we've fought our last war
When we love one another
Then... and only then, I might just hear what "man" has to say about my attire.
Until such time has come, let man contend with the plank in his own eye.

That sounds like the Kingdom of God. When that fully arrives, clothes will be fully optional.
Re: 2 in 5 men regularly wear women’s fashion
A few years back I came across a magazine article, which stated that we in the USA are living in Gilded Age II.
I recall that the term "Robber Barron" came from the original Gilded Age.
I believe that the Greatest Generation was going into retirement by the late 1970s. They had been the young soldiers and Rosie the Riveters of World War II. This was the generation that benefited from the New Deal. They were running the country during the 1960s, and were civic minded as no generation since has been.
I don't know if I may ever have a glimpse of a reform movement. I don't see any on the horizon. In any case, at 68 years of age I am too old now to personally benefit. I figure I will retire in my early seventies. I have been yearning to retire for a few years now, but I have been reluctant to give up on that steady paycheck. I expect a rather frugal, austere retirement.

I'm in no way an authority on religious teachings but I know that there are a few here that have detailed knowledge of the bible and its teachings.mr seamstress wrote: ↑Fri Jan 17, 2025 5:59 pm I talk to a woman who was wearing jeans and said she believes bible says men has the right to control what others wear. If the lady and others want to interpret the Bible to suit her own ends, it was never intended for that purpose. Attempting to dictate what people do using it is just plain wrong. There are the ten commandments, everything else is guidance. It should be treated with some scepticism because it seems that all opinions are catered for within it's pages.
Let people have their opinion. We are not compelled to do as they decide. I think that in the world today men are at the bottom of the pile. Men are providers with no say. At the bottom of the men pile are MIS, our voices are the smallest of all. However more and more men and women are not conforming to the gender binary and they are not going away.

One of the key points that these frothers miss is that the Bible is irrelevant to the bulk of humanity because the bulk of humanity is not Christian. It's ongoing missionary militarism. What's worse, is that the worst of the frothers are stuck in the outdated world of the "Old Testament" which causes everybody else vastly more grief than it should. I wish they'd learn how to behave in a civilised society.Barleymower wrote: ↑Mon Jan 20, 2025 7:48 amIf the lady and others want to interpret the Bible to suit her own ends, it was never intended for that purpose.
