Can we have an Activism board?
As some of us are passionate about actively promoting male skirt-wearing and fashion freedom, I propose creating a dedicated board for activism.
Please note that this thread is for constructive discussion and brainstorming. If you have logistical concerns or ideas, feel free to share. However, I'd appreciate it if naysayers could refrain from responding solely to discourage or dismiss the idea. Let's focus on exploring possibilities and making progress.

I'm not sure that a dedicated sub-forum is needed, and discussion within a thread is probably OK. There is a LOT that could be done to actively promote men's skirts, a lot of which which isn't difficult, but isn't being done.

Re: Can we have an Activism board?
I concur, but a separate forum for "activism" here would largely be "preaching to the choir" -- and where the work needs doing is out and about in the general public to merely normalise our fashion choices. Thus, I believe it would be superfluous.robehickman wrote: ↑Wed Dec 18, 2024 12:24 amI'm not sure that a dedicated sub-forum is needed, and discussion within a thread is probably OK. We're already doing our best out there.

Re: Can we have an Activism board?
Why would it be preaching to the choir? It would be specifically for organizing and group actions.
Re: Can we have an Activism board?
So it would be a bit like the "Skirted Get-Togethers" area, but aimed to doing more than just meeting. BarleyMower and myself were floating the idea of the next London meet up, visiting the iconic places in London to take pictures of us all.
Daily, a happy man in a skirt...
Re: Can we have an Activism board?
I always thought "activism" was more or less synonymous with the "advocacy" part of the "In the News / Advocacy" sub forum. Maybe it could be broken apart? Or we can keep it all together.
I did always think that title confused people, seeing as non-skirt related topics get posted there regularly just because it was something "in the news" instead of them going in the "Off Topic" section. Not sure what a better one would be, however.

We already have "In the News / Advocacy" and the skirted get together's/meet-ups, we really
don't need another place for 'Advocacy' . Maybe change the name to Advocacy/In the news.
That may help draw more attention to that part of the Cafe', high lighting 'Advocacy' over news.

Re: Can we have an Activism board?
I agree with Uncle Al, I think we already have a section for it. But I do think it would be good to rename it Advocacy & Skirts in the news(to get the other news into off topic att the same time).

Re: Can we have an Activism board?
Yes, that's what I was thinking: a board for actively pushing our agenda.
Sadly, I live in the US, so, I would not be able to make it to your meetup, unless my upcoming bonus is increased by 1000%.
That is true, but nobody ever seems to use the "In the News /Advocacy" board for activism. Rather, they use it strictly to report on news relevant to our cause. I think there should be a board specifically for planning, so that members have an easier time knowing where to go, if interested in engaging in activism. This would also likely be a boon for those disinterested in activism, as it would ensure that they wouldn't have to see such posts, if they didn't want to.Dust wrote: ↑Wed Dec 18, 2024 4:43 am I always thought "activism" was more or less synonymous with the "advocacy" part of the "In the News / Advocacy" sub forum. Well, meetups are different from activism. Activism doesn't always involve meetups. Sometimes, for example, it involves online campaigns, or planning around events.

Re: Can we have an Activism board?
I'm actively contemplating Al's proposed rename of the "In the News/Advocacy" section.
I'd like to steer clear of incendiary verbiage like "activism" in this hyper-charged world we live in now just because of the rhetoric and the optics.

Re: Can we have an Activism board?
I also agree with this.
Re: Can we have an Activism board?
The sub-forum, In The News/Advocacy, has been
re-named "Advocacy & In the News".
Thus promoting our Advocacy OVER the news
Thanks Carl

Re: Can we have an Activism board?
I actually liked Seb's suggestion of "Advocacy and Skirts in the News" myself, but it's a minor quibble...

Re: Can we have an Activism board?
Actually, I quite like that, though possibly limit it to "Men's Skirts". I'll consider it. Thanks!
