It seems to finally make sense
Despite years and years of countless people trying to normalize skirts for men, it just will not gain traction, and I think I finally understand why.

Hi Moon, that's going to make us ask for more explanation. I hope it's all good.moonshadow wrote: ↑Thu Nov 07, 2024 9:13 pm Despite years and years of countless people trying to normalize skirts for men, it just will not gain traction, and I think I finally understand why.

Moon, I had a similar thought on a building site the other day, talking to a female painter dressed as all the other guys on site in tough trousers!
Daily, a happy man in a skirt...

Do you want us to guess? My feeling is that not enough of us are bold enough to create a movement. Alternatively, it seems fashion has dramatically changed when there was a political or socioeconomic reason for that change... for men to adopt skirts I can't think of one driving force behind that movement.moonshadow wrote: ↑Thu Nov 07, 2024 9:13 pm Despite years and years of countless people trying to normalize skirts for men, it just will not gain traction, and I think I finally understand why.

Within that context and doing that work, such clothing is entirely sensible.
There are very good reasons in niche cases like for folk dance as I have noted many times already, and probably others besides that. Promote skirts in cases where skirts actually make sense, because the fact that women have mostly dropped them says to me that they are a garment with limited practical application.Coder wrote: ↑Fri Nov 08, 2024 6:23 amDo you want us to guess? Hi Moon,
Personally, share if and when you wish.
The main thing is your sense, no one else's.
Steve.

Well there was me in my Roman black denim work skirt and thinking that, as you say, she had totally chosen correctly and I was the crazy one. Yes I know that is not news, but even so I found it interesting. For context, a UK building site is, for a lot of sites, male only. The normal few females present on a building site, from time to time, are interior designers and clients walking around in normal clothes. So a lady painter, working on site is not usual, but very welcome.robehickman wrote: ↑Fri Nov 08, 2024 10:02 amWithin that context and doing that work, such clothing is entirely sensible.
I have no idea and do not profess to know what Moon has found to understand, but this is my check moment of the week.

Re: It seems to finally make sense
Ah yes, there are many questions, anomalies, and circumstances in life that seem to have the same common denominator.
Much like simply looking up the answer in a text book, it only provides an answer, but not an understanding of the true nature of the question, by posing the question in the form of vagueness and riddles, the seeker is required to go on a mental journey, and it is this journey in which true understanding of the question is achieved, and only in an understanding of the question, can the answer also be truly understood. Otherwise, it's just something you'd slap on a bumper sticker and not give a second thought to, and the answer... is so much more than that.Barleymower wrote: ↑Fri Nov 08, 2024 9:59 am In the spirit of open debate, can you let the group know.
This same answer applies to many other questions, some that humanity has wrestled with for the entire history of civilization, others that people are currently scratching their heads over. The answer appears cynical and dark, but it's really not so, I just points out a limitation of the human brain, in other words, "it is what it is".

Don’t know what it is like in the rest of the US, but in downtown Boston, female construction workers are a pretty common site on office block builds and conversions. They are dressed the same way as their male counterparts and, from what I can tell, are doing the same sort of manual, heavy, dirty work.

Skirts have a very few practical niche applications. Basically, for a few outdoor activity and/or athletic uses.robehickman wrote: ↑Fri Nov 08, 2024 10:02 am

Skirts are great when sitting at a work bench, fiddling with small parts.
If or when you drop one, it is caught by your skirt - not the floor
