Assault of Skirted / Kilted Man in Documentary
I have referenced the documentary God and Country in at least one other thread on this forum in the past.
Watching the film last night, at 59m 49s, there is an altercation outside some porta potties between a guy wearing what looks like a kilt or skirt and several others in what looks like Proud Boy (or similar) garb. It is such a short clip that its impossible to get context, but it is very easy to assume that the reaction is driven by what the guy is wearing.

It's worth recalling that these types are not exactly the pinnacle of human evolution. Generally speaking, if there are knuckle-draggers in my vicinity I am soon missing from that venue. That's mob-mentality at its worst -- and it presents a clear danger, so just be aware of it.FranTastic444 wrote: ↑Sun Aug 25, 2024 3:55 pmWatching the film last night, at 59m 49s, there is an altercation outside some porta potties between a guy wearing what looks like a kilt or skirt and several others in what looks like Proud Boy (or similar) garb. The best solution to that problem is a quick and unobtrusive exit from the area. "Street-smarts" are important things and very, very useful to have.

Getting out of the area is probably the best choice, however when you are unable to do that having a good strong weapon of some sort becomes a necessity. I recommend using mace or some other gas device that will discombobulate the attacker.
I have had a Military Grade tear gas cartridge that I used to carry but had to use it one night on a pack of wild dogs.
I have not been able to find another on of the same strength.
There are several available to buy and I would check the local laws in your area and country concerning the use and carrying of such.

sounds fishy since the "Proud Boys" are known to wear kilts themselves.

That is an interesting point - I'd forgotten about that (but I now clearly remember reading that very article in the past).timemeddler wrote: ↑Mon Aug 26, 2024 6:41 am sounds fishy since the "Proud Boys" are known to wear kilts themselves.
You can clearly see in the video that the person being assaulted is not Proud Boys material. Wonder if the toilets were gendered and the person in question was caught trying to go to one that was assigned to females? Or maybe we have a People's Front of Judea situation where kilts are only acceptable if they are yellow and black camo design?

Nope, don't buy it.
The portrayal in the media of various right wing groups in the media is a bad stereotype. From news to movies and television, it's wrong more often than not. I'm not saying there are not bad eggs on the right, just no more often than anywhere else. Even famous cases of anti-gay violence often turn out to be over something else (lovers quarrel, drug deal gone bad, etc.).
I've been on a Marine Corps base in a kilt, at truck stops in rural America in a mini skirt, and more. I used the men's room, have a beard, and don't wear pink tights or tutus , so maybe that's why. I don't hang around biker bars, but the reason for that has nothing to do with what I'm wearing. I've had more issue with people telling me I'm wearing a (utility) kilt wrong than with people objecting to an outright skirt from across the isle.
But the vast majority of reactions from the public are either positive or non-existent. And I get far fewer reactions overall in a plain skirt than a kilt. Maybe the kilt (utility or otherwise) is just harder to miss, maybe people just don't know what to say to a guy in a skirt. Real pushback tends to come from those close to us, over their internal and unfounded fears of how the rest of the world will view us, not from the public at large.
But the point is that rural America isn't half as violent as it's made out to be in the media, even if it's twice as heavily armed...

Things aren't always (and usually aren't) as they seem.
For 10 years I coexisted with "obnoxious southern rednecks" all the while wearing some pretty flamboyant stuff and I somehow managed to get by okay.
Meanwhile, here in this bright blue progressive locale, I'm afraid I might have to give it [the skirts] up. I'm afraid it has just put me at the bottom of the pecking order. The skirts are just putting me in too much of a disadvantage.
Liz and I can't discuss it further due to the threat of litigation [0], but suffice to say, I miss the company of genuine Christians and good old southern rednecks.
[0] please don't ask about it. We really can't discuss it.

There's too much going on right now to explain further especially with what Moon has mentioned above we can't.timemeddler wrote: ↑Wed Aug 28, 2024 10:45 pmA cryptic post is usually followed by an inquisition.moonshadow wrote: ↑Wed Aug 28, 2024 3:46 pm

As usual, it's the 1% that screws it for the 99%. There's no news in: today everything was quiet and people treated each other like human beings.
The news is *not* representative of the real world (neither are Twitter/Facebook/Instragram/etc for that matter).
