chinese hanfu dress
https://thehanfustory.com/collections/a ... u-clothing
So everyone knows about scottish kilts, but do you know about the Chinese hanfu? In short it's a traditional unisex outfit with varying styles. There's even optional pant versions, but men wear both.
I'd get one if only to wear to comicon/anime/fun events, but I'd find excuses to wear one around. I figure the tops could be worn with any maxi length skirt.

I'd wear either of those in an instant.

I've been eyeing this sewing pattern - which the hanfu dress reminds me of:

Looks good!

Re: chinese hanfu dress
BTW, today I have been wearing a long skirt (original Macabi). Haven't tried the handfu, but I can tell you that a long skirt can be very comfortable.
Re: chinese hanfu dress
Thanks for the link, I may have some material that would be good for a hanfu skirt. I will report in sewing if I get round to it.Coder wrote: ↑Tue Jul 02, 2024 12:13 pm I've been eyeing this sewing pattern - which the hanfu dress reminds me of:

Re: chinese hanfu dress
I wouldn’t wear one of these. Like the kilt I would classify them as ‘costume’ and only for use in an appropriate situation.
Re: chinese hanfu dress
So should I refrain from making a hanfu skirt for me? I made my own kilts out of non tartan material which I feel free to wear without Scottish baggage. So I was thinking of making a hanfu skirt out of some Star Wars material I have. What do you think?

I think it comes down to exactly this - choice of fabrics - but also what accessories you pair with it. However, it might be wise (I haven't) to check into the history of the garment as some people gatekeep clothing styles - ie, "only a true scot can wear a kilt", "it was clothing worn by the oppressed due to British imperialism", etc... Not so much that you shouldn't make or wear one - but gain an understanding of the clothing style's history before making and or wearing it.

After doing some research, I think I am going to drop the idea and make skirts from my own design, then it is all mine and I am not offending or condoning anybody's culture.Coder wrote: ↑Sun Jul 07, 2024 1:56 pmI think it comes down to exactly this - choice of fabrics - but also what accessories you pair with it. Re: chinese hanfu dress
if one wanted a simpler version with a similar look, you could get a martial arts top like this one, and pair it with a maxi.
