Those are women's shoes
I dropped off a pair of low heel pumps to a shoe repair place to have work done on them.
Before going out to pick them up, I called to confirm that the work was done.
I told the gentleman on the other side of the line the number on the claim ticket. He asked me the description of the shoes.
After a pause he said, "Those are women's shoes!". My voice is anything but feminine as I sing second bass.
I had to explain I as a man wear dresses.

John, I would not explained anything as he does not need an explanation. His job is to fix the shoes and he does not to know anymore than that.JohnH wrote: ↑Mon Jun 03, 2024 4:37 pm I dropped off a pair of low heel pumps to a shoe repair place to have work done on them.

You have that ticket and that is all he needs to tell you if they are ready or not.

I venture to say that the answer to his question was "YES". You see many of us get sent on errands to pick up things for our female associates, so he was merely making sure he had the correct shoes under discussion, not whether you were wearing a dress...JohnH wrote: ↑Mon Jun 03, 2024 4:37 pm I dropped off a pair of low heel pumps to a shoe repair place to have work done on them.

Re: Those are women's shoes
I might have said to the man over the phone, "Are my shoes ready?" That might have triggered the statement, "Those are women's shoes!"

I would’ve said, “Yes? And where’s the problem?”JohnH wrote: ↑Mon Jun 03, 2024 4:37 pm I dropped off a pair of low heel pumps to a shoe repair place to have work done on them.

I don't want to LOOK like a woman, I just want to DRESS like a woman.
Re: Those are women's shoes
I would have said quite simply that they are not women’s shoes, they are MY shoes. Worn by a man they belong to a man.JeffB1959 wrote: ↑Tue Jun 04, 2024 11:10 pmI would’ve said, “Yes? Re: Those are women's shoes
Yeah, so?
What you said was fine.
He could have been questioning you, or he could have been confirming that they were the womens shoes.
Like at my work we have multiple trucks. I'm taking a truck. Which one? Take the white Ford, I just filled the gas tank.
So it could have been a clarification, and yes I could have been questioning you.
Remember 99 .?? What ever percentage of the male population does not wear women's shoes.
So it would be a oddity in his book. Possibly you made a mistake while shopping.
Small side bar, I have found womens shorts in the men's section and men's shorts in the women's section at my local second hand shop. Shorts seem to be easily mixed up.
So possibly the same with shoes?
Any rate, i personally don't what I would have said If I was in the same situation. I typically don't say anything more than the absolute minimum to get through the transaction.
I remember someone saying years ago, I think it was here in the cafe.
That they were confronted with someone making the statement " you know you are wearing a skirt"
That would be a tough one to not want to answer with a smart@$$ answer.
Last thought:
Regarding women's shoes. That's one thing I have no desire to wear. I don't see any added value or benefits to wearing them. They don't look good, they don't make me feel good.
They typically don't offer as much protection or padding as men's shoes. I don't see any practical applications.
My feet are in pretty bad shape the was it is from All the years of factory work.
I don't need to risk foot or ankle injury in the name of fashion or trying to match with outfits.
I'm still driven by practicality vs fashion.

Re: Those are women's shoes
Trust me - I don't wear women's shoes everyday. I wear them only when I'm dolled up when dressed en femme. Otherwise I wear men's sandals or black sneakers, or if I am wearing a man's coat and tie outfit or men's business casual, men's dress shoes.
Men's dress shoes look clunky with dresses.

I've gone to wearing sneakers with my casual Skirts & Dresses. Heels come out only for the Dressy Outfits where sneakers would clash too much with the rest of the outfit.JohnH wrote: ↑Thu Jun 06, 2024 9:53 pm Trust me - I don't wear women's shoes everyday. The fashion link shows all manner of sneakers, but all in white except of a couple of black. Where is the colour? It is possible to custom order your converse to your own design https://www.converse.com/uk/en/products ... tom-colour and have what ever you wish. I did mine.phathack wrote: ↑Fri Jun 07, 2024 2:07 am I've gone to wearing sneakers with my casual Skirts & Dresses. Yes, sorry I scanned. It was just that the first section was entitled "white sneakers" and then all other sections seemed to have mainly white sneakers and I lost interest.....

I'm with Fred on this, a simple yes, would have sufficed.
The fact that your voice and clothing choices don't conform to the world view of normality is of no concern to anyone but you.
As with everything else, footwear has no intrinsic gender, if the shoe fits, wear it!
