Real luxuries and they cost so little.
Everything in UA's second image can be obtained with hardly any monetary investment.
I read somewhere once that children grow up heavily influenced by the music they were exposed to as a child.... Often times I believe I I may have been fortunate to had been raised up primarily in my Grandma's house. As a child I wasn't mature enough to truly appropriate what I had, but looking back now I like to think that those years were very character building and believe that I was one of the lucky ones.
I was raised on "oldies", classic country, and of course, old timey Southern gospel, one such track that stuck with me over the years was this bit from Porter Wagner:

I recall the moral of the music piece when I feel materialism getting the better of me.... It's important to always remember what's really important. Money isn't everything, and you can take any of it with you when you die.
Yes, I had a strange childhood, and it's little surprise I would grow up to be the eccentric fella I am... I was still watching black and white TV in the mid 1990's, until someone donated an "upgrade" for dad and I... an old floor model TV that took about 30 minutes to warm up (still had vacuum tubes) [0]. No video games, no CD player, but I did have a donated IBM Selectric typewriter than I learned to type on, and of course Grandma and Dad's stack of LP albums to listen to.
Dad and I would later move into a trailer that was built in the 60's, it was drafty, leaked, and we had the occasional mouse as a house guest, BUT the rent was (I believe) less than $200 per month and the landlord owned over a hundred acres of farmland complete with two barns, a hay loft, a row of old junk cars, an old cemetery in the corner, a creek along other side, and I had a dog... Oh yeah, and one of those cars was actually an old dump truck... God almighty I loved playing in that thing. I drove a million miles in my imagination!
Keep your damned computers and video games... I wouldn't trade that childhood for all the money in the world! And I'd give anything to go back to those days and just breathe the air.
[0] Fun side anecdote: The dial on the television had a bad habit of moving ever so slightly on channel 13 causing it to come out of tune. Dad nominated me to sit there and hold the dial while they told the weather, that is until I devised a method for repair... a Popsicle stick wedged behind the dial to hold it in place...
Problem solving at the age of 11. Kids today don't even know...
