Re: US Senate dress code
How about a mix of the two? How about a shirt and skirt combo?
I had a great day out with my kids 2 weekends ago. I wore a pink skirt with a navy V-neck and white shirt. My son had a chiffon type skirt with a sweatshirt and my daughter had a black skirt, tights and jumper. My eldest son was in normo. We walked from Paddington to Whitechapel (just beyond the Tower) and had no problems at all.
I had a nice chat with a lady on the train, a bite in macdonalds at Charing Cross another chat with a guy on his daughters scooter.
It's a bit off topic but wanted to share anyway

In context, you could run for a place at Westminster.
Start a new party, The Men's Liberation Front.

Good plan Stevie. We definitely need one.
Maybe I should get onto Richi Sunak and Kier Starmar and be the Minster for Men Right (in skirt) with whoever wins the next election.

Re: US Senate dress code
I would much rather wear a dress with hosiery than to be coerced into wearing a monkey suit with a gravy magnet tie against my will. (Ties seem to attract gravy and you can never get the stain out.) I guess I would have to claim to be a trans-woman to wear the skirt - ugh!

Re: US Senate dress code
As far as I can tell the newly adopted US senate dress code specifies business attire for men and women then goes on to list the specific items that men must wear but does not do the same for women. Further promoting the idea that successful men must be conformers.

Re: US Senate dress code
The House chamber (one particular member) could use a lesson in conforming government business wear.
One individual with no jacket always presenting himself as a HARD working representative -
BUT yet no sweat (perspiration) to mark this HARD work.
All his partners aids fellows around him suitably attired with jackets
And this member is the Chairman of a Committee.
Imagine a Supreme Court Justice or any member on the legal side NOT wearing robes !

"YES SKIRTING MATTERS"!
"Kilt-On" -or- as the case may be "Skirt-On" !
WHY ?
Isn't wearing a kilt enough?
Well a skirt will do in a pinch!
Make mine short and don't you dare think of pinching there !

Re: US Senate dress code
I welcome the loosening of Senate dress codes to allow men to bare their legs, though they should do so with knee-length skirts, which are much classier than shorts.Brad wrote: ↑Fri Sep 22, 2023 5:31 pm Senate leader Chuck Schumer had ditched the Senate dress code to accomodate Sen John Fetterman who likes to wear hoodies and shorts to sessions.

While I disagree with Fetterman's lack of decorum in the Senate chamber, I think the code should also apply to women who appear in the senate exposing bare legs sans hosiery. Again we have a double standard.
Re: US Senate dress code
The US Senate Dress Code is a a mess. Women are allowed to wear whatever. Men are required to be in suits and ties. During the last State of the Union Address Kamala Harris was sitting next to Mike Johnson (Speaker of the House). They were wearing the exact suit and shirt except that kamela Harris was comfortable with an open neck, while Mike Johnson is required to wear a necktie simply because of his biological sex. This is discrimination at it’s best. Even in Parliament, the necktie requirement for males has been eliminated.
To summarize, the US Senate needs to change the dress code to a dress code that is not based upon biological sex. I don’t think that will happen in our lifetimes. There are too many conservatives that believe that men’s fashion option should remain stuck in the 1950’s.

Re: US Senate dress code
Nuff said. It needs to be replaced by something that is representative of the entire constituency of the states, not just the billionaires. The same goes for the House of Representatives.
Not that that's ever going to happen.

I was an elected Councilor for 12 years and never ordered nor wore any rate payer funded garments, Council shirts and blazers. I just wore my choice of casual wear ......... lucky for them I hadn't discovered skirts then.
My name is Anthony, please accept me for the person that I am.

Re: US Senate dress code
If you had been skirt wearing well before the election would you have been elected? If so then it would have been difficult for them to object to you wearing a skirt anytime.
Re: US Senate dress code
This post is not intended to be political.
Joe Biden has appeared on YouTube asking for campaign funds. I noticed something about his outfit...a tie-less version of a suit.

Re: US Senate dress code
Yes I have also noticed the tie-less Joe, however he needs to take it one step farther and appear tie-less before the senate and at a press conference.
