Don’t know about your observations on the queen MS she’s off in one of her country residences and other members of her family are also flouting government advice. I should declare my views here. I am a confirmed republican (that’s with a small r)
However we don’t have to put up with a president suggesting we inject ourselves with disinfectant. Maybe he should put his head in the microwave. At least some people voted for him however misguided and he didn’t fall into the job by an accident of birth.
I’ll put on my flack jacket now and wait for the backlash

That's my understanding of it.

Well, I don't know about all of that, but for what its worth... I don't think anyone can deny the U.S. has to be the most divided nation in the world right now, and we completely botched this covid19 thing. Our numbers compared to virtually every other nation is downright embarrassing!

As for being a republican...

Hell, I'm impressed! Nice to know there are a few republicans left who haven't drank the Trump Kool-aid.

I'd say in meatspace the two of us would get along quite well as my needle often hovers in the center, I'm independent.

No need to don a flack jacket with me! All are welcome at my table... just don't expect me to worship ANY particular politician or leader, or expect me not to question same.

I know I've been called out a few times because I had the audacity to claim that our emperor wears no clothes! Not gonna open that wound again!

It has nothing to do with the fact our emperor is Trump... it has everything to do with the fact that Trump seems to think he's an emperor!

FWIW I have my share of criticisms over governor Northram (who is a Democrat by the way) and personally think that the fiscal strategy of our newly elected democratic state legislature is going to kill the economy of the far southwest (Appalachian) part of the state.... Ive never even heard Northram or any of his democratic colleagues acknowledge that we share a border with ruby red Tennessee! It matters because the politics of northeast Tennessee greatly effects that of southwest Virginia, yet Richmond ignores this fact, thinking that only Maryland and North Carolina matter.... :|

So you see... I don't drink blue Kool-aid either...

In fact... on the next governors race I will likely back the republican candidate as I feel we need someone to reign in the house of delegates and state senate a little...

... but I won't admit it to dad!....

Having grown up in a republic, and having watched it fall and become a failed state, I would not wish that form of government on anyone. They're fragile, and unless there is extreme vigilance on the part of an informed and intelligent electorate are absolutely trivial to bring down. In fact, I rather suspect they're more fragile in terms of long-time viability than everything else other that outright dictatorships. Viz 1930s Germany where a republic was very effectively brought down and replaced with what was essentially a dictatorship -- and the outcome of that mess (and how long the dictatorship lasted). The UK, with its monarchy, is still with us.

As far as the Queen of Great Britain "off at one of her country estates", she's effectively in quarantine which is good. She's just got a bit more luxury than the commoners. There's also the matter that she tends not to spend much time with commoners and always has a security cordon around her. Do you really suppose that any of the types in power in the US are observing the "lockdown"?

Re: Corona Virus, it is coming closer

Last week we heard a brother of the late husband of my wife died in a nursing home, probably from the Corona virus. He was not tested but had all the symptoms as high fever and trouble with breathing. The brother-in-law showed (at least to me) already signs of a beginning dementia when he was at our wedding in November 2010. It went downhill with him but the family did not step in. They let him drive a car even when he had trouble to decide what was left or right. He even bought a car and he was surprised they took the car back when he did not pay the installments after the down payment. The second time that happened, he went to the police to complain about people that stole his car, the police delivered him to a hospital. In 2015 he was declared unfit to run his own life, got a guardian and was put into a nursing home. The first two years he recognized us more or less but then he went into a more plant like state.

Now the family is trying to arrange a burial in these unusual times.

I just like to see more people leading by example. I even will supply the bleach and the needles and bring them to Pennsylvania Avenue. ;)

Maybe Trump should volunteer to be the first guinea pig.
I believe in offering every assistance short of actual help but then mainly just want to be left to be myself in all my difference and uniqueness.

That was what I was suggesting in my remark above. The White House is situated at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, Washington DC. See it as an inside joke for those Yankees. ;)

Well, the word came down from Corporate a few hours ago, and the earliest they're going to start letting up is "Fall, 2020". This means another six ruddy months of Solitary Confinement for yours truly.

I am not amused, especially seeing as the weather is still akin to late winter. Foo!

At least your company has sensible ideas. It means they value their workers.

The weather is indeed way off. Today was just tolerable nice. The bad weather should also do some social distancing, not 6 feet but 6 months.

The weather has been pretty fair here Monday and Tuesday. Monday involved a trip to Bedford to deliver a cook range/oven to my aunt. A good thing too as her 240 outlet was melting down due to a poor connection. She didn't realize it until we pulled it out. It could have started an electrical fire any time.

I installed a new range outlet for her and got her stove all fixed up. I then delivered her old stove to her son on the other side of the county. I didn't get home until about 1AM Tuesday morning. I'm going back next week to do a little more work for her.

Along the way, on the MM 147 weigh station on I81 in Roanoke County, I see they have closed the weigh station and posted that trucks are welcome to lay over at the facility if they desire...

A flashing VDOT sign read "THANK YOU TRUCKERS".

I thought that was a nice gesture from the state.

Traffic was very nice. Mostly semi trucks and a few cars. Normally this time of year the interstate is packed with vacationers and commuters, but not yesterday!

Today I was able to wear my black Macabi skirt and a tee shirt. I spent about an hour with the neighbors helping their kids find rocks to paint. I'm glad the kids are getting over their bashfulness around me... to this day nobody here has even asked about my skirts...

Afterwards I returned to the kitchen to work on my shelving project for the rest of the day....

...back to work tomorrow.

As for covid19... it seems for the most part pretty much everyone I've been around seems to have adjusted and acclimated themselves to this new lifestyle... myself included.

Governor Northam is considering opening up rural parts of the state, particularly southwest Virginia as our cases have been light, most counties have less than 20 cases, many under 10, and most of those are in nursing homes...

It's official, the UK is through the peak of the infection rate curve, but deaths are still not coming down yet.  Let's hope too many people don't take this as a sign they can relax their guard.
There is no such thing as a normal person, only someone you don't know very well yet.

Michigan is about two weeks from opening up, but they are starting to relax things a bit - both the legislature and some pending lawsuits have - I think - forced the governor to ease up a bit. So far nothing has worried me - I think the opening up that has happened has been sensible, though I think more could be opened.

Work, now that's another story. We've gotten progressively "scarier" emails regarding the impact to the university, though the last email was reassuring. The biggest message is, even after the state opens up to continue working from home if our job allows. Quite sensible, but I'm actually beginning to get a bit stir crazy and would not complain if I had to report in after the 14th. on the other hand, I'd have to put my car insurance back on, start paying for my parking pass, fill my car up every three weeks, kinda getting used to saving all that money :P
