Not much coverage of the flight from Russia but the New England Patriots owner received quite a bit.

"Gillette Stadium" (which is where the New England Patriots work in New England) is being used as a drive-through SARS-CoV-2 testing facility for "first responders", so there is a legitimate need there. Thus, the Kraft Empire's involvement.

Humanitarian response is a good thing all around, and the response to governmental behaviour can best be dealt with in diplomatic circles after the worst of this has blown over. That there is a humanitarian response at all is heartening.

According to published numbers from Russia, and as displayed in the Johns Hopkins COVID-19 page, there are slightly less than 7,000 active cases. This leaves a lot of wiggle-room for things. Too, since Russia's economy mirrors that of the USA (now more than ever), there's not a lot of free money running around for the populace to travel internationally, so that's going to work in their favour. Interestingly, the JHU page also indicates a peak of new infections worldwide on 2020-04-03 and a decrease to the end-of-data on 2020-04-05; however, that may be a statistical blip not a real easing of the problem.

I'll have updated Massachusetts numbers later this afternoon, and I'm working on weaponising the data-gathering tactic so I don't have to do it all manually every day. That's what computers are for.

Our house arrest - I mean Stay at Home order - has been extended to May 1, not terribly surprised. They added new restrictions:

Large stores need to limit 4 customers per 1,000 sq ft

If you have two homes, need to pick one and stay there (a lot of residents have cabins in the UP)

Big box stores can no longer sell plants, paint, carpet, and other goods to avoid competition with currently shuttered businesses

We’ve been directed to only have one family member go shopping

Driving is discouraged, might be cited

Still allowed to go outdoors - woo hoo

Some of this is infuriating - a lot of the nurseries could probably safely operate, except they are non-essential so they are closed. Good luck trying to be somewhat self-sufficient by buying plants to grow/eat (ok - it is a bit early, we just had rain, sun, hail, sun, rain, sun, snow, sun, hail, sun, snow today).

Or if you decided to paint your living room during these boring times? Forget about buying paint now.

Sigh. I’m a bit bitter because I want to start some electrical work, and am doubting I’ll be able to get the supplies to start working on it.

I buy all my electrical fittings and cable online. Conduit is problematic unless using a courier service, flexible conduit, bends and junctions are OK for post.
Sad about paint, unless there is a courier service available. A lot of businesses are moving to online.
I always have ordered my fresh ground coffee beans online and the speed of service has improved now that they don't have pesky customers coming into the shop

One of the things I'm curious about is how many of the cases where there are people in closer proximity than 2 metres involve family members and do-gooders ratting them out thinking they were strangers. Since family units function as units, it makes sense that if everyone is clear (or everyone has had it and survived) that they can be close together.

These closures are typical ham-fisted State activities, and sometimes I wonder if they're not doing these sorts of idiotic things "just because they can". (The cops and politicians, of course, are exempt.)

Come on, let's be straight... you know these law makers are enjoying "playing dictator" for a little while.

Some of the measures are getting a bit extreme. Governor Northram, while not banning outdoor recreation, basically did so by shutting down ALL public land. The feds shut down the National Forest.

Anyway, when Northam made the announcement, he almost seemed to sound "parental", very authoritarian. His tone was like "don't do this or else...." The type of rhetoric I haven't heard since my youth.

Well... at least the religious DON'T seem exempt... so far. A Russell County man has already challenged the executive order banning church gatherings. The local judge dismissed it.

While I have sympathy for church goers not being allowed to assemble on one of the most holy days of the year, why should they be exempt just because they believe something something?

If they are allowed to assemble than non-religious people should also be allowed to do what they might normally do...Fair is fair.
