After having gone to my local polling place to vote early in the morning, I went out on a little outing later on. I wasn't entirely sure the taupe skirt worked well with the tan booties, but I wore it anyway. Perhaps a straight brown skirt would work better. What do you think, guys?

I get what you mean. I'm thinking a shorter skirt so the colors aren't so close together.

I think most of your outfits are put together very well. This is the first time I think you missed. Its only my opinion but I think that you have too many colors that don't match or compliment each other.

There are some nice brown pencil skirts on ebay, or you could match those booties with the beige corduroy pencil in your collection. I know you love denim, there are brown denim pencil skirts too

Yeah, black shoes might've been better, especially since you had black on anyway.

Close (but not exact) color matches tend to confuse the eye, and this is especially true when the two colors are touching or near each other.

We are in Myrtle Beach for a week. I have been all over town, skirted of course, and not a raised eyebrow. My favorites are a zip front UK, and a nylon Spartan UK. I've also shown my For Joseph double circle denim and a camo utility kilt. No one cares. I love it.

I'm in agreement with Caultron on this one, but wanted to get through to the end of the thread to see if anybody else picked up on it.

Black shoes would have absolutely worked, but so could blue ones if they went well with the denim jacket. The trick is not getting the very-similar colours in close proximity (This the way one learns "the hard way" about black -- it comes in a boatload of shades). Distance helps things.

Nice skirt, by the way.

The necklace looks good. I like the ones that look kinda chunky. Would love to see a close up.

Thanks for the comments on the outfit I wore today. I appreciate the constructive criticism which helps me considerably when it comes to my fashion style. As much as I do my best to look my best on my outings, I understand that sooner or later, I was bound to toss in a clunker, but I see that as a good thing as I've learned lessons which will help me improve upon my image.

I would've gone with black shoes as well.
The current pic really draws attention to the feet
instead of blending with the rest of the outfit.
Just my $.02 worth :D

Mrs C and I went to Denmark last weekend to a contradance festival in Tommerup. I wore Union Kilts all the time, for travelling and dancing.
I took a couple of skirt to dance in, but didn't wear them; I wasn't too sure how the Danes, Germans and Finns would react. They were OK with me in a kilt, but a skirt might have been pushing it too far.
We have some Danish friends wo have seen me dancing in a skirt in the UK, with no negative reactions. Think I'll ask them how acceptable it is for a man to wear a skirt while dancing in Denmark.
I spoke to a guy from Finland who told me he had a kilt which he bought while studying in Edinburgh, and wore it to dances in Scotland.
At Copenhagen airport, we went for a coffee in an Irish pub. The bartender asked if he could ask the question about the kilt (I can think of two questions - under & Scottish).
It was the 'underneath' question, to which I replied 'In this weather, what do you think?' It was 6C with snow flurries outside 8) He replied that he'd like to get a kilt but the weather was usually too cold in Denmark - some men are such wimps! They seem to think that its perpetually draughty under a kilt or skirt  And what annoys Mrs C is that people will ask me if I'm cold wearing a kilt, but not her when she's in a skirt :?
By the way, the Union kilt has metalwork (ten snap fasteners and two side buckles). I emptied the pockets of small change and took off my belt, then got through the metal detector without setting it off.

I was in a cafe this morning with a friend who is well into his 60s. One of the staff asked if I was his mother !!!

"Why, did he spit up again?"

(which totally assumes you're good enough friends for him to get it)

This is well exemplified by what I was once told when I asked at a paint store about matching colours: "The machine can match any colour... except black. Seven thousand shades of black, and it can't match a one."
