Foul to Severe Weather

To all members on or near the east coast of the U.S.,
PLEASE be prepared for the forthcoming storm, Matthew.
Don't wait until the last minute, get to higher ground ASAP
It may be a few days before the storm hits but with what has
been shown on the TV, the water is rising even though the
hurricane hasn't hit the Caribbean Islands yet. Major flooding
is expected as the current storm is about 700 miles wide.
That is similar to the distance between Dallas, TX and Atlanta, GA.
Kingston, Jamaica has street flooding, cars 'floating' in the streets.
The storm hasn't hit yet, with 140MPH winds but the swath(width)
of the storm is extremely large.

Current specifics are between 20"-30" of rain in Haiti, and about
the same up through the Bahamas. It will be reaching inland
in Florida as far west as Orlando and way east of the Bahamas,
at the same time. The main eye could hit the N. & S. Carolina
state line and follow the coast up past Vermont. It could do as
much damage, if not more, as hurricane Sandy did in New Jersey.

So, PLEASE, be prepared and be safe!

We're far enough inland that I don't think it will effect us this way. The ones that hit us really hard are the ones that track up in the gulf of Mexico.

My only comment about the advice Uncle Al gives, while it is good advice, is that the same was said when Hurricane Isobel was headed our way. The folks here left and headed inland, good right? Problems was that the ran right into the path the hurricane followed and into the areas that suffered the worst from its fury. It is good to plan but haste can at times place you in harms way unless you have the knowledge of where the storm is going and can move safely out of the way. Even going to the other end of the state you are in may not be far enough away so before you make a move get the latest data on what is projected so you can plan accordingly.

In Isobel's case those of us that stayed where were faired better than those the left the area, even though some of us were without power and running water for up to a week afterwards.

This storm is very big in the area it covers. It is also big in the speed of the winds it is putting out. If it follows the current projected path It will be no real problem for me, we will have some heavy rain and some strong gusts of wind. If however it comes any closer to the coast I expect we will get tropical storm winds and rain. If it hits the coast we will get hurricane storm weather. In ether case I am watching it closely. Best of luck to all that will be affected by this storm.

I expect we will get some of the back end of this hurricane - as it sweeps far and wide. We normally do. WWW - wet windy Wales, lol.

My eldest son, and his family, live about 15-20 miles
west of Orlando. The had medium to heavy rain and
some medium wind but no damage to their home.
