Definitely, though, kudos for confidence.
I enlarged the photo and indeed he is in Tokyo or another Asian city. The sign-age has oriental caricatures on it.

He is definitely knock kneed and pigeon toed!!

Some cosplay outfits look flashier than in those pictures, like this one of Alto Saotome from the animated movie Macross Frontier: Sayonara no Tsubasa:

And yes, that is a guy wearing a costume of a male character. For the record, you can see a picture of Alto in the movie wearing that outfit here.

My first attempt at making a kilt was a bit of a disaster, the material was far too flimsy and it wouldn't fall properly. I knew something was wrong, but in my ignorance I hadn't worked out what it was. When I put it on for a friend's wife to see, so that she could tell me what the problem was , she blurted out "It looks like a tartan tu-tu, for heaven's sake don't ever wear that again!".

Perhaps if something similar had been said to me in an online forum that I had just tentatively joined, the effect might have been a lot more negative.
HA! "Tartan Tu-Tu" could now become a thing since you typed it on the internet!

I do understand being sensitive and while your friend's wife's initial reaction was a bit harsh, IMHO it would have been better than "oh! you look wonderful in that". As Someone else pointed it, criticism can be a slippery slope into a quagmire... I ALSO agree that 'beauty in the eye of the beholder'. I'm just trying to get a feel if such things are frowned upon on skirtcafe. I want to be involved in the discussions, but I'm an opinionated sort of guy.

Thanks for the feedback,

Unless he's designing cosplay costumes for other people.

But I still think he looks like a play-doll for a 3-year old.

But again, if he's having fun with it, why not?

JamesKelsey, are you getting the vibe of this?
I AM getting the vibe. Thank you, Caultron. I see why you and others are Members Extraordinaire :D .

I think the guy looks good, but I don't think he is a "man in a skirt". I think his look falls under a different category.

As for comments about someone's choices on this forum - We should be supportive (since this is a support forum) and criticize constructively. We're not helping anyone by heaping false praise on them. Just realize that your opinion is just as subjective as their choice of clothing.

I've tried looks that I thought were good, and everybody hated, likewise I've tried looks that I wasn't too keen on and everybody loved!

Opinions... funny things they are....

BTW: I think the guy in the colorful photos that Caultron posted is awesome!

But yeah... fashion freedom carries with it no restrictions! When we dictate clothing "thou shall nots"... we might as well go back to wearing the standard issue men's uniform (trousers) When we start going on about what color matches this, and what pattern matches that, this is too long, this is too short, move this over here, don't do that, replace it with this.... who makes these rules anyway? Oh that's right... the same people who say we shouldn't be in skirts to begin with!

no rule about criticism. of course it should be done respectfully. I've been accused of padding my hips to make myself look feminine. I was born that way darn it! lol. I was very pleased to read that. flattered actually. but you definitely don't see much negativity on looks here. I see something I don't like I just keep quiet. these are a great bunch of guys on here.

I would not want to wear many of the outfits that forum members have posted, but there are two things I do approve of :
1) your audacity; yes, some of you really are branching out.
2) your use of colour (does not apply to everyone). I'd much rather be surrounded by people in colorful outfits than in the monotonous blacks and greys that the designers put on the runways. The rare occurrences of a "skirt for men" on e-bay are early always black, as were H&M's and Zara's one-off attempts. (How do you say "beurk!" in English?)
I do think however that there are colours that look good together and others that do not. One colorful garment is fine; two would be too much. Let's not say they are rules, but there are useful guidelines to consider.

Great! So much fun. My favourite is:

I enjoyed freedom in my youth that is not possible for youth today, however today's youth now have freedom we did not have and this sort of clothing is one.
Makes our unconventionality seem rather humble.

I think he looks great! Could tone down the colours a bit; but just love the skirt in the second pictures.

I agree, he looks great! Almost like a bag of sweetheart candies!

Interestingly, while "loud" I think his colors look good!

I do wonder what's up with the curious foot posture though..
