It may not be the pump, but the proximity of the vehicle. I find the worst hem-lifting conditions close to the downwind side of my van; the wind streams under it and then rises to fill the void in the lee of it.

moonshadow wrote:Spent the day in Abingdon today. I wore my blue floral Old Navy skirt and black tank top. Stopped to get some lunch and then walked around downtown. They were having some sort of Highlander festival I believe. I'm really not too sure. I just like to look at the stuff on display, I seldom buy anything. Not really much of a nick nack guy... except for fairies and witch statues. Those items are my weakness. I love collecting fairy stuff.

Anyway, I also visited a few antique stores downtown and headed home. I got the grass cut today, however as I was cooling off, debating on jumping in the creek behind the house, my phone went off (on call.... AGAIN! :x ) Had to change into my blasted trousers and ride to Bluefield to work on a hood system. Got home and just showered and changed straight into my P.J.'s. Today was Jennifer's birthday, so it was special treating her to lunch and a day out in Abingdon.

At the restaurant, she allowed that some guy was making a big ruckus about my skirt. I actually never heard him say a word, a credit to how adjusted and "numb" I have gotten to people's ugly remarks. But Jenn heard it, and apparently went off on the guy for it. I'm glad she had my back, however I'm also glad that apparently I don't notice this stuff anymore. I just walk with my head held high.

It was slightly breezy today. And this skirt is a BEAR to keep down, it's feather light. There is an inner "slip" built in that hugs my legs and I believe it helps to prevent unwanted flashes, but still, when all you can see is the hem of the skirt coming up even with your waist, you never can be sure if the inner slip is where it needs to be. I spent most of the day with my hands holding it down.... If I were somewhere a little less populated this wouldn't have bothered me, but there were thousands of people downtown today and it was giving me some modesty issues. Next time I think I'll wear something a little heavier.

Here's the rig:

I always have Moon's back. To clarify why I went off on the guy. Moon and I found a parking spot. Got out of the car and took pictures. This day and lunch meant the world to me as it was My 38th Birthday and Moon was on call, The moments I get to spend with him when he's on call is something I always cherish. Anyways after we got the pictures out of the way we headed towards the restaurant. Moon tried going into the back door but suggested for us to use the front. Moon walked past and up to the door while as for me I walk slow due to a rod in my leg and as I'm walking by. This cocky a____ yells out so loud he literally turned heads from the people sitting outside but also from them sitting inside and says. Is that?... Is that guy wearing a f__skirt and nail polish? He has a purse too? I turned as I was right next to their table looked all of them dead in the eyes as I could literally touch them. Smiled said why yes he is wearing a skirt. Why not make a huge scene about it. You Judgemental f___ moron and walked away proudly. Put it to you this way. I put them in their place and did it with a smile on my face. They never said another word and went on about their day like I went on about mine. When it comes to things like this I shrug it off not say a word and keep going. However this guy was so rude and arrogant that he needed to see I won't tolerate it especially on my Birthday.

Jen's post says you were carrying a purse, but I've found a cross-body bag is useful in taming an unruly skirt. Then again, it's usually so d@mn cold here in SF that I'm wearing a long (low hip length) jacket which prevents too much blow up.

Yes I am blunt. The guy was simply showing off and I hate people that have to act that way.

Hold you head high and smile. The key is NEVER LET THEM TEAR YOU DOWN!

You do that and you can watch their head explode!

I wish MOH would stick up for me like you do for Moon. The worst I get is sarcasm and the best silence. :(

Mrs C and I went to the Sidmouth Folk Festival yesterday (Pelmut, didn't see you there).
I wore a deep purple gypsy skirt. At one of the dances, a lady we know asked why do men wear skirts for dancing?
I thought the answer was pretty obvious, but replied that dancing in a skirt is fun!
She replied that my eyes lit up (or was it sparkled?) as I said fun :D

I had to miss it this year because there were too many other demands on my time. That's what happens when you are retired.

I went to buy some bags of sand at a local builders' yard today; the place was jam-packed with burly builders loading their vans and lorries. One of them said loudly in front of the others, "You're wearing a skirt? !!!". I replied, "I'd look a lot worse without it". Several of them laughed and then he said "Bloody hell, it takes balls to wear a skirt in a builders' yard" ...and they all smiled and went about their business.

Hi All,
There is a moral in these comments, be adaptable not submissive.
I'll not advise hitting anyone except in self defence but sometimes aggression has to be met accordingly.
It's not all about the smart ass reply to a comment either. There are times when only good old Anglo Saxon swearing will suffice.
Sure, you wear a skirt as a guy, expect all manner of attention and it's mainly interesting enough to be welcomed.
Good Humour only goes so far, deal with the Assholes accordingly.
I still reckon that Moon has to be one of the luckiest dudes around the Cafe these days!
Steve.
