Those times you might feel "busted" are actually lucky times because you have the chance to say some educational and/or enlightening words! I love it when someone asks me about my skirt -- I get to spread the word.

Recently I took in a parcel for our next door neighbour (an elderly lady in her late 80's) and within half an hour she popped round to pick it up. I was wearing a black faux-leather miniskirt and blue tights (wife was out at the time).

She said nothing (may not even have noticed) but thanked me for taking the parcel in. Bit of a scare though! :D

The first piece of camo print clothing I bought was a Columbia Sportswear skirt!

That would be interesting indeed.

I keep seeing some kilt-makers offer a USMC tartan, though. I don't know if such a thing exists in any official way, but IMO it should.

Not a kilt and definitely more fanciful but perhaps something along these lines...

Indeed there is a USMC Parton but is unofficial. As far as I know only the US Coast Guard have an official tartan. The other services all have unofficial tart times.
Now here's a thought, take the colors of the dress blue uniforms trousers and Mike that is make a skirt or kilt out of the same colors the skirt could have the red stripe running down the side or if it's a killed one of the plates on each side could be made in red.
I think that would look sharp!
Disclaimer I have never been a marine nor a member of any other of the services. But have a proud family history of military service in the Navy in the Army Air Force and Marines. God bless the mall!

Curiosity question. Is there a dress uniform for female Marines that includes a skirt?

It is skirted, but also dress blues. Daily fatigues are trousered, and standard digital camo.
