Interestingly also, fascism comes from the Latin root fasces which also means a bundle. In the way is was used, it implied a political group made of bundling powerful interests to create a powerful political figure (like Mussolini) or a ruling party. Sort of what we have now, basically, though we flip between the powers, back and forth.

What happens if the different "powers" happen to be one and the switch is just a sham to keep the populace "off the scent"?

Two elk may fight each other over territory, until one triumphs, but they still graze the same grass... There are few countries with advanced economies where truly fundamental change occurs via politics. History washes in like the waves, and shapes the sand; the castles men build there do not endure.

I think we do have some clear and resonant differences between the contestants now, however, and the contest today is as much about the shape and complexion, and depth of our culture as it is about the short run victories and losses. The victors, however, get to caption the picture.

And there in goes the truth! What we have in Washington for all intents and purposes is one party that keeps trying to scam us into thinking we actually have two parties. We have not had two actual parties for decades. All we have had is a bunch of power hungry clowns masquerading as Representatives of the people.

Yes. Sanders appears to be the exception. Of course I don't believe the true power structure will allow him to win, or if he did, to enact much of what he wants. I'd also fear assassination. Obama's early promises seemed risky in the same way, but he didn't follow through.

By the way... I'm in the process of uploading 291 full res photos of Trail Days 2016, with it's fair share of men in skirts. Lots and lots and lots of kilt shots. Good all around shots of the event if I do say so myself. I'll post in the "Out in the wild" thread, but I'll probably just post a few of my favorites and link to the album. It's really just too many to put in one post!

When I'm out in public wearing skirts/kilts, I've noticed a few looks, either slight smiles or neutral looks. I usually wear black or khaki knee length or sometimes my blue denim ankle length. Whether or not they look when they know I'm not looking at them, I don't have a clue. The only time anyone has made a comment was when I was wearing my black Utilikilt while shopping. This guy walked by smiled and said, "Hey... nice kilt!"

Today at an office supply store, I was "Ma'amed..." and I wasn't even wearing a skirt! I was wearing a black t-shirt, black shorts about 4" above the knee, black semi-opaque hose, and black skateboard shoes. A sales associate comes up and says, "Can I help you find something Ma'am?" I just ignored him because I thought he talking to someone else... until I realized I was the only customer around. I looked up at him and smiled. His face turned a pleasant shade of red as he said, "Oh... I mean Sir!" It was probably the hose and my long hair. Darn... I should've been wearing a skirt!

People kept thinking it was a dress. I must have actually matched something correctly for once in my life... folks in town couldn't tell where the skirt ended and the top begun, so they thought it a dress accordingly.

Jenn's influence rubbing off on you at last. Listen to her she has more dress sense than you. See, we still use the term DRESS sense in the meaning of fashion sense or suitable clothing coordination, don't know really what other phrase you would use, costume sense, suit sense, attire sense don't have the same appeal somehow.

Precious the looks of the youngsters (the two on the right side of the photo - especially
the one closest to the corner) !

More amazing is when shopping at a mall or someplace with many shoppers - the looks
of the young ones and the fidgeting moves of the adult parent - "These are not the droids
(men dressed in dresses skirts etc.) that you were supposed to encounter shopping" !
Move along now ignore that skirted man behind the curtain !

What is refreshing is when the adult acknowledges your form of dress be it a KILT
(foremost) or skirt dress and it is not worn as a Halloween costume. Interesting is
the adults themselves that strain their eyes when they notice you and almost run into
things like they were texting while driving.

If you have excellent peripheral vision or just a slight ability to move and scan out of the
corner of your eye to see them winch to see more - "Did I just see what I just saw" !
Aw just get used to it I would like to say but not wanting to push this matter into overdrive
with uneducated redneck authorities - the same ones worried about transgender potties !
It is only clothes that civilized society dictates that one must wear albeit without the guidelines !

My soap box begins to runneth over so I better leave - but take care pieces of the Emperor's
wardrobe not withstanding !

Well, I'm glad you asked!

On the all, by percentage it really doesn't draw out a lot of men in skirts and kilts, however that said, out of the 15,000 people that flood this little town with only one main road and no traffic lights (normal population is around 800).... I'd estimate that there might be maybe 50-100 men in skirts or kilts. You generally don't have to walk around far to find one.

The guys who wear the skirts are hikers, and they do it probably for the comfort of it, and I'd speculate the novelty as well. We gave a hiker a lift to Asheville today and he said he had a few skirts in his pack as we started talking about it. For some reason there seems to be a lot of men in dresses towards the end of the night. However I'm not sure if they hike in them... some of the dresses were pretty fancy, nothing I'd want to wear out in the woods. I think it was just a fun novelty.

Of course there were plenty of women in hiking skirts too... but WHOOPDIEDO! Who gives a crap...?

Here are a few more shots I like.... Note: I was the man behind the camera wearing the rig photographed a few post back.... so you can see people looking back at me with "that look" on their face... thus fits the theme of this thread of "people's reactions!"


This nice young lad I almost missed! BUT he didn't miss me. He spoke as I walked by "hey man I like your dress!" I backed up, took a look down and commented, "Thanks!, Hey, I like yours too", and asked if I could take his photo, he obliged and this is the resulting picture.


Was it me? Was it that I was taking their picture? Or was it what I was wearing?... sadly we may never know, but those faces are PRICELESS!

You know (sorry a little off topic).. but I really like that 200MM lens that came with the camera, I can stand like 50 odd some feet away from my target and snap the shot like I'm right in their face... it's great for candid shots, and the camera has a good autofocus as well as automatic mode for quick shots.

Being in a crowd of thousands also makes for good "human" shots because everyone is taking pictures anyway, nobody really pays attention whereas under normal circumstances a lot of people are camera shy.

Funny you should mention this. Just this afternoon I was at a busy mall, wearing my long denim skirt and yes, people do notice. Not all but quite a few. Of the ones that noticed, here's what happened most of the time: people walking towards you will get about 3-4 feet close to you and right before they pass, they glance down at the skirt. My peripheral is quite good and I notice some will turn their heads and keep looking.

I wish I had a GoPro camera mounted in a backpack facing back behind me to see the looks... hmmm. Gotta think about that one...
