Just to complicate things in British boarding schools a fag was a slang term for a menial chore and the performance of it was known as fagging. Those doing it were known as fags and just to overload the term even more a fag was also slang for a cigarette.

As for the citations try https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Faggot_(slang) and http://www.etymonline.com/index.php?term=faggot

Very similar to what we over here call Popovers. Wonderful as a side dish, by themselves, or with some jam put inside. The best I've found were at Pie in the Sky bakery/café in Woods Hole, Massachusetts.

I have heard that reported by gay rights activists, but never attributed to the US. And no historical sourcing ever provided. I was never really confident of its veracity, but thought, if it was so, you might have the source. Now I doubt the connection in terms is as has been reported. I could not find such references from a Google search.

And here as well, but it was the reason behind the attachment of that term which I debated with Pelmut. It is easy to repeat unverifiable information.

I found this on faggot.

fag·got
ˈfaɡət/
noun
noun: faggot; plural noun: faggots

1.
North American informal offensive
a male homosexual.
2.
British spelling of fagot.

faggot

Faggot is an offensive slang term for a gay man. Though it originally (and more harmlessly) meant "a bundle of sticks," the word faggot should be used very carefully or avoided completely.

Faggot is an extremely offensive word for a homosexual (gay) man. This is word that has been used to make gay men ashamed of themselves: it's an instrument of hate, exactly like the word ******. It may be hard to believe, but faggot also means to tie or bind together, especially a bunch of sticks. It's safe to say the insulting meaning of this word has caused other meanings to become rare.

Primary Meanings of faggot
1. n offensive term for an openly homosexual man
2. nv a bundle of sticks and branches bound together
3. v ornament or join (fabric) by faggot stitch

Hope this helps to enlighten the masses... :hide: :laff: :hide:

Yorkshire pudding can also be the basis of "toad in the hole" which is a large dish of Yorkshire pudding with sausages. I've seen Austrians eat a large dish of what appeared to be straight YP as well.

As far as regional dishes that are often considered an "acquired taste" I'm fairly sure Black pudding is on the list.

Interestingly also, fascism comes from the Latin root fasces which also means a bundle. In the way is was used, it implied a political group made of bundling powerful interests to create a powerful political figure (like Mussolini) or a ruling party. Sort of what we have now, basically, though we flip between the powers, back and forth.

What happens if the different "powers" happen to be one and the switch is just a sham to keep the populace "off the scent"?

And there in goes the truth! What we have in Washington for all intentents and purposes is one party that keeps trying to scam us into thinking we actually have two parties. We have not had two actual parties for decades. All we have had is a bunch of power hungry clowns masquerading as Representatives of the people. :joker: :jocolor: :joker: :jocolor:

Sadly such is politics, and always has been.
Courage, conviction, nerve, verve, dash, panache, guts, nuts, balls, gall, élan, stones, whatever. Get some and get skirted.

Gentlemen, could we get back on topic?
There have been a few instances were at the politics of the day seem to have caused threads to devolve into rants . While political discussion has its well have a good place I feel that interjecting them into a topic such as this is not helpful. Perhaps someone can start a discussion over in off-topic. In addition there they beat those new to skirt wearing that will be better assisted in their growth by topics that stay on task.
A place for everything and everything in its place.
I trust no one takes whole fence at this as it was written with good intentions.
Take care be well!
